I guess it's one of those things that works for some but not for others. DS insisted on getting me one for Christmas last year so DH did. We'd used the Dremel on dogs in the past but our current dogs didn't like the noise. They do better with the PediPaws but certainly don't love it. I can do all three if DH holds them for me. With our pug it's easier just to use the clippers. For the big dogs I prefer the PediPaws.

We have a Jack Russell (pint size pit bull  ) and I've tried everything, including the Pedi-Paws even with 2 of us holding him. NO luck whatsoever!
I finally tried putting him on the kitchen table (less likely to run off) and bending the feet backward to clip the nails, similar to a farrier shoeing a horse. This way he didn't see what was coming and quickly realized there was nothing to fear or get hurt from. And haven't had any problems doing it this way.

How much is that Pedi-paws thing? I bought a little dremel-type rotary tool perfect for the size of my hand at Harbor Freight Tool for under $10, and I found a little kit with different grits of sand paper "sleeves" and bits & stuff for pretty cheap also - enough stuff to get me through for quite awhile.
