Yup, I had several people say to me, when they heard that DS#2 was born at home, "but isn't that dangerous, giving birth in a room that is not sterile?"

Yuh huh, right, like HOSPITALS FULL OF SICK PEOPLE are so sterile and safe, and nobody ever gets, say, fierce antibiotic-resistant infections there... :p

I would usually just smile and reply that my body has had lots of practice making antibodies against the germs in my house, as opposed to the brand new unfamiliar disease-causing ones in yer basic hospital.

I think it *did* actually cause some people to Think Twice About The Subject :)

The biggest motivator in business history is....the fear of death. The Cancer Business is a trillion dollar business in the US alone because of this one motivator....take the treatments we recommend, or die. They will cure you.....oops! No cure? Well, at least we probably extended your life! Oh? You were too sick to enjoy the last part of your life? Well, at least we gave it the ol' college try, didn't we? That will be $200,000.00, please!

That's what all this germophobia is, really. Preying on people's fear of death. Just like the new animal disease threat that seems to pop up like daisies each year or so....Mad Cow Disease, Avian flu, etc. IMO, these are scare tactics to incite support for NAIS and ultimately line corporate ag's pockets, while keeping people from growing their own.

I can tell you, from a nursing standpoint...some of the dirtiest people and families I've known are also some of the healthiest! Germophobes have three strikes against their health....nonexposure to germs and an unprotected immune system, as a result, and the stress on their bodies of worrying about contracting an illness.

My mother is always asking me if the kids are going to get sick from being around our chickens lol. Just like any other animal, as long as it is cleaned up after when needed your fine. I haven't bought Lysol in years. I can't even remember when that was. My mom was real big on that. The kids get the flu and she is telling me has sprayed everything. When I was a kid and went over to my GP house I ate stuff I pulled straight out of the garden. I would wipe some of the dirt off and hide behind a lawn chair so my grandpa wouldn't see me eating his carrots lol. I always drank from the hose. He also feed me cold hotdogs straight from the package. I'm still kickin' after all that. I even survived the old metal lawn darts lol

I still just wipe the dirt off things from my garden and have a snack on the way by:>) I do like a clean house mind you, but I don't use any of the store brand products to clean it...they are simply dangerous...and I notice that if I DO happen to bring a bottel of lysol or pinesol home we all get sick within a week of using it...coincidence? I think not!

The only nod to germ control I give is putting bleach in my dish water. :)
My mil does that but she puts so much in I can smaell it from one end of her house to the other. But they also don't clean their dishes or pans off when their done and sometimes that sit longer then is neccesary.

That's one of the reasons we do it, as the boys will leave dishes sit while I'm at work, or even leave dirty dishwater in the sink and the smell? Peeeyew! So....everything gets bleached...especially the dishes that have been scraped out from under their beds when they clean their rooms! :p

What do you use? I am the biggest fan of plain old white vinegar. I clean almost everything with it--floors, showers, counters, glass. I do keep ammonia cleaner in the house for thigs that need an extra boost, but vinegar is what I use most.
