Ameraucana were developed in the 70s from araucana.

All the birds that hatcheries (and feed stores that get their chicks from them) sell as ameraucana and araucana are just easter eggers. They have been so heavily crossbred to make them lay more. Most have the same basic feather coloring. I've had a huge mix of body types on the ones I've gotten.

They have been the healthiest hatchery birds I've ever had. I have 4 chicks I recently got for replacement layers. My easter eggers and wheaten ameraucana are all pretty old now (5-7 years).
