the house will be built hopefully within 3 years so i guess i will have to deal with this useless fireplace for the time being maybe i can cover it with my flat screen or put the flat screen into the fireplace

I heard that! For the record, I didn't say igloo, but that gives me something to think about.

All summer long we pick up old dry branches (kindling) from our forest and stored them in the wood shed. We used them all winter last year and for the one week that we needed the wood stove this year.

Elijah, Regarding the size of the wood that you burn in your stove (when you get one) as long as the wood will fit into your stove allowing you to close the door securely, it should be okay. However, make sure the wood is seasoned or it won't burn well and I think will leave more soot build up that could later cause a fire in your chimney. There also may be some types of wood that aren't ideal for various reasons.

i was thinking that you had to cut wood a certain width

there are only oak trees and pine trees on the property and i would never use pine trees in a fireplace

i would start a stack at the end of winter to use for the following winter
