I dutch oven cook almost every time I go camping. I have a tripod as well.

I store some propane for the camp stove.

I am thinking of storing some charcoal, (skr8pn influence). :D

Emergency essentials has a new product I am thinking about trying. It's expensive but last forever!!

http://beprepared.com/product.asp_Q... Up! Emergency Fuel & Firestarter IN-A-BUCKET

But I guess none of these are permanent solutions.

I would love a wood cook stove.

gee a new product that lasts forever? or even the 30 odd years that they claim? HOW DO THEY KNOW? Hype Alert
No thanks I lived outdoors for 28 days straight with only a old fashioned dutch oven (with the feet and the dished lid. I could live without the feet but that dished lid is needed.) I cook in coals not a big flaming fire, you set your dutch on the coals and put more coals in the lid. A big knife to chop and shovel coals and other heavy work, a small sharp knife and a stone is all the hardware I carry and if the area has suitable stones I can do without one to carry. I wish I could find another dutch oven like the old one (never lend tools to idiots!) 8" diameter and 2.5" deep but it was big enough to cook for two.~gd

I guess we need to study up on some the Amish non electric products. I know there are catalogues out there for such things.

For us, wood cook stove in the fall, winter and spring, and outdoor kitchen with a smaller wood cook stove in the summer. I am also building an outdoor BBQ pit that can have a fire to heat a grill placed over it...hope to have this done this year, but have a few other projects on the go as well so will have to wait and see....

I watched documentary on the Amish the other day with the kids. We fell in love. They showed some really good things on there. I got a few ideas from that. DS wants to become Amish now. LOL

You have to give credit where its deserved..The Amish aren't feeling the squeeze like most Americans.I love their horse drawn farm implements, they grow the fuel for their horses.
It's my understanding that the newer generations of Amish are embracing more technology, but it's very tame to what mainstream America's use to. I'd dare to say, they couldn't care less how much heating oil, gas, food and clothes cost. They basically don't consume these things. Pretty amazing for our day and age.Not to say there aren't non-Amish Americans living a very simular lifestye.
As a group, they really stand out from the mainstream in simple living.I for one have always admired the Amish, they are thriving and expanding in the mist of what are hard times for much of America...No matter how you slice it, theres something to be said for that...!
