I used to be super organized and very neat. But in the past ten or so years my life has been turned upside down and my stuff is scattered and in some cases inaccessible. It is very frustrating for me. I have had to buy stuff new, just because I could not get to what I already own.
I dream of having a nice and tidy well organized home again some day.
But I did declutter something today! I removed a whole lot of adresses I don't need from my e-mail box.
I try to make sure the yard waste bin and the garbage can is full every week. I don't go to the goodwill outlet untill I have put away my prior purchases or get rid of some other stuff to make room for new stuff. It works, sort of
Denise, I'm with ya, girl. Used to be so organized, even with all my projects. Always had a room that was packed with stuff, but that was my attic/cellar in apartments, I needed a place to stash stuff that was not in use.
Now my whole house is this way and I don't know where to start. It started with a major roof leak, when we were dashing around, moving stuff so it wouldn't get ruined. Before we got that resolved, there was another leak in which a ceiling actually collapsed. Stuff got stashed all over the house and other stuff happened and now I can't seem to get it under control.....help!
Of course, my gardens and back yard are gorgeous, because that is where I spend my time....
Call me weird, but I sooooo have a desire to be turned loose in y'alls houses! I get some kind of strange thrill out of organizing and purging for people. My friend asked me to do her walk in pantry once when I was visiting her and it totoally made my day. Everything in there was so mixed up!
I traded with someone to organize things after the first roof leak. It looked great when she was done. But she didn't pay attention to my instructions as to how I live and how I need to access stuff....and I still find things in weird places, several years later! And I had to buy many tools and such that I just could not find after she finished.
But I'd trade with you, BBH! I bet we think alike in many ways, and you wouldn't hide stuff or toss stuff needed to be ss! I need another ss farm nerd to organize for me.
That's me too!!! I'll spend an afternoon removing the weeds out of the cracks of the pavement in the hot sun, before I'll attack a pile of papers in my bedroom.
I get rid of things LOL I don't organize stuff to another portion of the house, I get rid of it out of the house is my motto lol
My bedroom is like urs BBH I have king bed, Tony's night table and light, 1 small picture we bought on our honeymoon, 2 medium dressers and a kinda big tv yea Tony loves that stupid tv but my room is clutter free to the max I like sparse rooms big time
my goal is to have less and less "stuff" in this house and by goodness I am accomplishing it lol
"Stuff" around me in the home makes me very uncomfortable. My MIL is a hoarder and I walk in her home and go insane instantly...gotta get out....too much stuff everywhere UGH
Clutter drives me insane and my fiance is a bit of a packrat. A usually reasonable packrat. I try not to look at the stuff he has kept since his cat passed away years ago. He'll probably never get another cat. But ... just in case ...
I declutter often. If I don't wear something for a few months - and because it is seasonal - it goes in the goodwill bag.
Bathroom drawer: done.
On to my file boxes which are in a horrendously embarrassing state! And my sewing room. *gulp*
I have been on the poor side most of my life. I worked hard to aquire the things I needed much less wanted.
Now I have 0 income. Soon my bank account will be totally wiped out. I will not be able to buy anything. So I have to make do with what I have. This makes me resistant to tossing stuff. I just received 3 pair of nice looking jeans from a neighbor. They are several sizes too big, but they are in nice shape. better than anything I own. So I will keep them and wear them. This winter when I will be wearing my sweat pants under my jeans, then they'll fit.
It is that way with everything I own. I cannot afford to buy string, so I am not going to throw any out, even if it is ratty looking. Same for the old towels, sheets etc. I put duc tape on my shoes in winter to make them last longer.
I have a few outfits I wear out in public, but even my nice stuff is at least a year old, since I have not purchased anything brand new for a while. When I do purchase new stuff, it has to be on sale and is usually still the prior seasons style.
I wish I could at least get everything organized, the way I used to have things. It drives me nuts, not having things placed logically and neatly labeled and accessible.
BBH - I am sending you a plane ticket today to come to my house. I am a little like Farmer Denise. We had so little when I was growing up and even now. I have a little different train of thought though as far as getting rid of things. I don't worry that I will need a piece of string in the future and I can trash that. But my problem is that I see everything in dollars. The shirt in my hubbies closet cost us 15 dollars and if I have to get rid of it, I see getting at least 2 dollars for it in a garage sale. I have had successes with garage sales in the past and made about 600 dollars last year getting rid of the childrens toys and clothes. So I put things in totes for a garage sale that takes years to have.
I am also a very sentimental person. I hate to get rid of things that were my grandmother's, aunts, etc. I get great joy in looking at things that belonged to them and have those things stashed all over my house. I would love to have less things and like the look of uncluttered, but just cannot fathom throwing/gifting Grandma's dresser set (brush, mirror, nail file, buffer) away to someone that wouldn't apprecite it like I do. The problem is my brother's wife doesn't like antique things so I get everything.
I need to reconcile things in my mind that all the things even though sentimental, cost me time in cleaning them and organizing around them and such.
Well *sigh* maybe one of these days the house will look uncluttered.
