Down at the neighbors stealing more computer time LOL she really doesn't mind.

Update on my computer - it had 26 viruses! one of them being a worm! my cousin is trying to clean it all up now, but they said i have to buy and re-install virus protection. Apprantly my stupid nephew took all of my protection OUT of my p.c. I didn't know that was possible??? jerk.

In other news, while i was at the library posting pics for ya'll...some guy shows up at our house and tells E that he's an inspector and that we were supposed to have our new(er) trailer inspected before we could move into it. What?

He said we were supposed to see their department (i've never even heard of this place) before moving the trailer to our land, so that they could tell us just where on our property we could put our trailer. Excuse me??

Then they said we were supposed to have excavation work done by a licensed professional instead of doing it ourselves AND we were NOT supposed to do the piers ourselves even though we knew how. AND we were supposed to have someone licensed hook up our electric (we did, just he was Amish). AND they want 2 inches of gravel under the trailer. AND they want to see if we have all of the piers where they deem the piers should be.

He refused to give us his name, but gave us a stack of papers to"fill out and look over" and said he could be sending us a citation in the mail AND if we don't pay the $750 to have our house inspected, he might condemn our home. WHAT?!

THEN he said if we don't pass inspection, assuming we let them come inspect, they give x amount of time to fix "what's wrong" and then we have to pay another $175 each time they come out to re-inspect. IF we can't pass after x amount of inspections, they will condemn our home.

:rant :somad :he :barnie :somad :rant

So why is it that someone or something always wants to knock you back 10 feet when you get ahead by 2?

eta: guy down the road from us said he has to get his inspected because he's going to be renting it out and he's trying to get HUD approved so he has to be inspected to get HUD approved to rent to HUD clients. I'M NOT RENTING MINE OUT!!

He refused to give his name?

No business card, no office phone number, no contact information, nothing official, just a bunch of papers? That sounds fishy to me.

He gave us a business card, but his name isn't on it. and he hand wrote a number on it and told us to call him at the number he wrote, NOT the number that's printed on the card. That was fishy to me.

E asked him for his I.D. and the guy refused to show him anything. When E told him to leave because he was on private property and trespassing or he'd call the police, the guy said, "Go ahead and call the police, we'll see who's going to be arrested!" like we'd done something illegal!!

Talk about freaked out!

It might not be required but I think anyone employed by an enforcement or regulatory agency would be required to identify themselves when performing their duties. I would not call any of the numbers he gave you unless they are the same as what you can find in the telephone book or on the internet for that agency.

Probably didn't get a vehicle description or license number did you? E was probably in shock over it all.

Don't know about where you live, but I hate where I live because of all the rules and regulations you're supposed to follow if you do any work to your house. Some stuff is nuts. I know someone who was told they had to have their lawn sodded-in the middle of winter-and w/out it, they couldn't get a CO.

I haven't read all your journal, so don't know what all you did, but did you check w/your local township to make sure you had all the permits you needed? If not, and this guy is legit, they can make all kinds of trouble for you.

I think it sounds fishy as well. I believe they are required to carry identification. If it was legit, I don't think he would have gotten mouthy back at E either.

Definitely fishy. I would ignore it for now and see what happens. And if he comes back don't talk to him without the police present ;)

Google the handwritten phone number, and if it is not too late, don't handle that card or the papers. There could be usable fingerprints on them. I bet the number comes back as a cell phone, not an office phone of any kind.

I wonder if he already scammed your neighbor....
