I feel your pain! We've had an ongoing rat problem since losing Gracie the varmint dog extraordinaire. We resorted to the green chunk type poison. I know they like it and eat it because DH left a bucket of it open in the garage. Couple weeks later it was empty. Little ba$tar(d)$ came and stole it right out of the bucket! But, I haven't seen evidence of a rat in a couple of weeks now.
That's the poison I have in the traps right now. I was using Ramik but they quit eating it, so I switched to that. Ive even poured bacon grease on it as a pest control guy told me they Just LOVE it. Not at my house, they don't. Ive had the rolling mouse bar thingy for a while and had bought a bucket to use for it a while back but just never got around to using it. Little a-holes are probably laughing their little rat butts off at me right now.

I feel stupid. Today at work I walked in on one of the Drs and a tech talking about something and I made a comment about it. Needless to say it didnt go over well. We discussed it more, with me trying to explain why I felt the way I did on the subject, but the Dr was much more informed and knowledgeable about it than I was.
Why I feel stupid is because I was just parroting and repeating statements that other people have said or posted. I dont know what Im talking about. I dont have the knowledge or information, facts, to support my statements or opinions. I shouldnt try to enter a discussion if Im not informed enough about it to substantiate my claims.
Yes, I could read up, research, or talk to other more educated people and learn enough to be able to stand on my own merits, but Im just a stupid groomer.
And, yes, Im having a pity party, but I also realize I shouldnt jump into a pool if I cant swim. You shouldnt argue with someone smarter than you.

The best thing about that situation, is that you learned something. There's nothing wrong with that. And, I'll bet you won't do it again. Don't beat yourself up about it - we've all been there - done that... :hugs

Its not just that situation, its all of them. The most I do is listen because when I try to state an opinion about any subject, it gets ridiculed in some way.
I realize this may and probably does have something to do with the current atmosphere here in this country right now that Im allowing this to upset me, but its happened before. Lets just say Im constantly reminded I am not educated enough to suite others.
On a positive note, the buns got fresh straw tonight to bed down in because we are suppose to get our first frost tonight. Got to keep those bunny toes warm. 😁

I have never felt so "heard" ever in my life🤣😣💓 I'm a former groomer married to a vet. He gives me that look sometimes, but I've learned to make him explain himself because sometimes my question or opinion isnt as dumb as the look makes me feel! I HATE the feeling!!! I'm curious the topic if you want to share?

The rabbit kit eating rats are also relatable. Its one of the reasons I stopped raising rabbits. Later we found the rat nesting grounds. 🤢 Starving them out worked in the barn and chicken coop. I just put 4 silkies in the coop, but I have a cat living in there overnight. Shes kenneled at night to protect the chickens, but I hope the cat scent deters the rats so they dont come back.

DH used poison and used smoke things where they had dug tunnels/nests under the coop. He surely didnt get them all. We moved the chickens and then it sat unused for 3 years. No sign of rats since. 🤞

They were talking about California and I said it was becoming a socialist state. When asked to elaborate my statements were apparently not founded in fact. I just stated what friends of mine who live there have told me and or posted online about the crap going on there. There was alot more but it would take to long to explain. I'll just keep squeezing dog butts and shaving out matts.

Ahhh, yes. The "anecdotes arent real" argument. :sigh: There are ways around it. Be very careful of how words are defined! Try to stick to topics with no right or wrong answer! Like hypotheticals and ethics. And topics that are related but you have more knowledge or experience on. Just dont cite anecdotal evidence! LOL

My husband can explain the research regarding laryngeal paralysis, and he scoffed at people (in a FB group on the topic) describing their dogs symptoms as "reflux" because true reflux can't exactly be observed.(I mentioned being very careful how words are defined, right?) But I have much more knowledge of how to care for a larpar dog due to the same FB group! So when my dog was vomitting and hospitalized but labs, xrays, exam, and max dose ondansetron didnt help, I insisted on PPI rx trial because of my knowledge (100% gained from anecdotes, LOL). Guess who was right? (Spoiler: me) My husband is coming round to my ability to identify patterns in large volume of anecdotes, and we don't have that conversation and "the look" as often. 😅

Dont put yourself down. You have skills and knowledge they dont have. Keep being you. The communication gap with over-educated nerds is not insurmountable. 🤣

See if you can get your hands on a vet dermatology textbook. It helps to have the right words for communicating about your job. The one I read debunked what groomers teach each other - much of which is incorrect or unsubstantiated, unfortunately.

Rammy, I have met you in person. You definitely are not stupid. You just work with assholes that like to look down on others so that they feel better about their own selves. You lack a certain amount of confidence when dealing with others. That does not make you stupid, it just makes you vulnerable to jerks that put other people down so that they can feel superior.

You are not just a dumb groomer. You are skilled in caring for dogs, making them look and feel better. Nothing dumb about that. Do you have a Bachelor's Degree in squeezing dog butts? Nope. Do you need one? Nope. Do you know how to do your job? Yes and you do it well.

Let's face it, California is a failed state. People are leaving it left and right, moving to other states. I suppose your coworkers think it a great place to live-they should move there quickly! You are entitled to your opinion. I'm guessing that you and your coworkers are on political opposite sides and that you are outnumbered. Bullies are not just in the school yard, they are in work places too.

Perhaps you could look around for another job? Maybe at one of the big pet stores where grooming is an important part of their business. If you decide to stay where you are, concentrate on the life you have outside of work. You have a home, acreage and that is quite an accomplishment. You have your animals and your own world where you are happy. Piss on those witches.
