Oh, I'm so glad you posted this. That is the recipe I was going to try! I think I will go with Aunt Carol's instead now.

Dace, it looks to me like the salt and vinegar amounts are reversed, although the vinegar still looks a bit scanty. Did it work out okay for you?
Ah ha! I bet you are right! I got that recipe here form someone who had made it and I thought, ugh how could you eat that? I assumed there was a typo but I bet you are right. I may just PM her and ask for clarification. Now that I complained so rudely about the recipe I don't want to offend the original poster who was kind enough to share the recipe!
It's so easy to transpose when typing, hey? BTW, maybe the recipe posted under "Favorite Pickle Recipes" should get fixed, too, before someone else has a disappointment

Enjoy! My sister was just saying how much she enjoys these. My brothers and BILs get these for presents every year.

One note of caution: If it is really hot, maybe just leave it on the counter 1 day before refrigerating.

It seems that Dace used my recipe.
The recipe is correct as posted. I checked my recipe book. It might just be that my family likes the salty pickles. I will put a note on the original post, so that others will be aware that it is too salty for some tastes.
I must admit I rarely eat more than 2 of these at a time. But my former SIL used to polish off a jar at a time. But I think he was also drinking his homemade beer at the same time. ;)

Dace, I also just re-read your original post. They do mellow some as they age. When I tried mine after just a few days, I also thought they were nasty. But after the full two week time, I liked them.

oh ya know what?! I sliced my pickles into thin rounds...I wonder if they just soaked up too much salt because they were so thin? If they were whole pickles I would probably have a different result.

I'd also like to add that I may easily have mis-measured the salt. I was in a hurry because I knew DH was on his way home from work and then we were headed off to the hospital. So if FD is sure the recipe is correct, I would say I must have mis-measured and cut my cukes too thin.

Something that I really need to get thru my thick head...TASTE before finishing!

I bet slicing them did make a difference. Lots more surface area to absorb salt! I will give them a try at some point too then.

I moved my Aunt Carol's pickles to the fridge today. They are very tasty! DH wondered if we could reduce the salt just a bit though. These aren't going to last long so I will try that next time.

Wanted to update this thread...especially since I bashed poor Denise's recipe.
When I repacked, I added a tsp of chile paste and fresh garlic.

Let me say this is hands down the best pickles I have ever eaten. We not only eat them all but we have been out for at least 3 weeks.

I am about to make another batch!
