sassafras root beer

I dug up a little sassafras root. Does anyone have a recipe for fermented sassafras root beer? I used to have one but it got lost in the move. the roots smell so good, the whole house smells like root beer already.

No recipe, but I remember as a kid, having some home made root beer my uncle made. It was awesome.

Right now I'm boiling the sassafras roots to make up quart jars to store in the refrigerator. I'll drink some as sassafras tea. The remainder will be used for making root beer. I need to make a bug first, in order to ferment the sassafras for root beer.

Thanks LG, I found some recipes. That I recall are close to what I remember before. Sassafras root beer will be a special treat, once I get it made.

Shooting for 2 gallons of sassafras tea. Got 1 gallon from my first boil down. Working on the second boil down. The house smell like a root beer factory, so good!

I get two gallons of sassafras extract/very strong tea. It's enough for 24 gallons of root bear. I'm starting my ginger bug this afternoon. Its been a long time since I made root beer. I prefer birch beer but it'll still be nice to have some homemade root beer.

My wife and I had some sassafras tea after dinner. We watered it down about 10 to 1, really good with honey and had a nice after bite.

Man I slept like a baby last night. Sassafras Tea has some health benefits one of those is a sleep aid.

I started my ginger bug Sunday, today (after 2 days) I opened the lid to add more ginger and sugar and seen bubbles. So it looks like my bug is alive I'll be starting my naturally fermented sassafras root bear by the weekend

Hmmm. Grandma used to make sassafras tea. I like the smell. There is a good amount of it along one of my ditch banks by the road to the back of the property. Of course, being by a driveway path, it gets cut a few times a year.
