LOL I thought maybe I was weird for thinking my goats smell so sweet sometimes. It's hard NOT to smell them while milking. I have a break from milking though -- expecting first kidding on Dec 28.

I didn't know Jean Auel continued the series! Somehow I missed that and thought it died out. The last one I read (I think it was The Plains of Passage) I didn't like as well. Guess I'll have to read The Shelters of Stone, if I haven't yet. I just remember I was a bit disappointed by the last one I read. The first three were so good. :)

My goats are busy vaccuuming up all the fallen leaves too. In a hard wind like last night, they fall thick like a heavy snow. Then the goats have a party. :)

I smell my goats on a regular basis. It is part of hugging them ;) They smell wonderful and outdoorsey.
I also love the smell of cows and cow barns. When I go to the fair, I always stop at the cow barns to get a good whiff!

I am am so happy to hear that there is more to come in the Clan of the Cave Bear series. Guess, I'll put that on my christmas list ;) It'll be one of very few "wants", rather than "needs" :p

It comes out March something-or-other, so it can't be a Christmas gift, unfortunately. You can pre-order from Amazon though.

I do think that the Clan of The Cave Bear was the best book of the series and they kinda keep going downhill. I wish she had not tried to make it into some sort of romance novel as well as all the other stories she was telling. That part, and all the time spent on the relationship with Jondolar kind of bothered me, but each book is long, so there are parts that are awesome in each one. I'm in the process of rereading the series right now and I'm up to the Mammoth Hunters.

There is a sample chapter of The Land of the Painted Caves in the kindle version I bought, Ayla has three horses, the wolf, and a baby named Jonayla and lives with the Zelandonni (and Jondolar)at that point. At least she hasn't invented the wheel in chapter one like I suspected.

How dare you make fun of my favorite book series EVER!! :ep LOL :celebrate
I just can not wait too read the final(supposedly) chapter of this series! I was so down in spirits when I read that "religious" folk had harassed/threatened her into not writing the last book of the 6 book series, I can not wait to read the last chapter in the "Earths children" series.
And to know that it is coming out in March! :weee Just in time for an early Mother's day gift!! :woot

But knowing the story line I dread thinking that somewhere down the line -Ayla's children might end up fighting one another over territory..

I've read the whole series several times so while I make fun, I loved it. I consider a little bit of it "fantasy"....no one person could have done all those things. But it is interesting to think about how ancient man managed to accomplish things and invent things, I give her a little poetic license.

I did not hear about Jean Auel being harassed, that is terrible, she obviously was trying to create a novel, not rewrite history or make a book for children.

I always thought she supposedly had premonitions that she would have two sons leading a war against each other some day. I expected that to end the series, her being able to reach both of them with her powers and end the war between the races, with her galloping there on the back of one of Whinney's granddaughters.I felt bad that science has ruled out neanderthals could have "mixed spirits" with our ancestors, or if they had, they would have been sterile.

I love the Earth's Children series... they are some of my favorites! I can't wait for the newest one. It's been a while and I'd kind of given up on another one coming out :)

I believe it was ill health........but I'm wondering now how many more in the series there will be. I heard there was going to be one more after The Land of the Painted Caves, but now I wonder.

I would think her enthusiasm for writing more about Durc in the story might dampen when he could not have existed....or could not have "carried on" the neanderthal line like Creb imagined.

Haven't you ever seen people who looked kinda neanderthal? I can see why Jean Auel believed they must have lived on........

Well I've been researching what meat I oughta raise here and we finally decided now that we are going to try rabbits. Coupla reasons...1) We've had several as pets and already know how to take care of them. 2) I've worked for a rabbit specialist vet in the past so I'm familiar with lotsa stuff with them. 3) Hubby can build free hutches from cast off materials at work and 4) We have eaten rabbit in the past and found it very yummy. 5) All my friends on another thread have pointed out all the benefits!

I've a friend on BYH who lives near me and is selling some Creme d' Argent bunnies, two pair, and they are so lovely, I think I would work on doing something with the hides, but they are a meat breed and supposed to be gentle. I'm picturing craft projects for myself, but they have really pretty hair. Perhaps I've read too MUCH Clan of The Cave Bear and I'm picturing myself tanning hides to make blankets with and mocasins for my granddaughter. lol

In any event, I think we will be adding rabbits soon. It seemed like my biggest expense is gonna be those dang watering things and the food dispensers. I'm going to look for used ones. And the rabbits themselves, but these are a rare breed and I was hoping I could sell the nicest offspring for a little cash for their hay and pellets once in awhile.
