if you wait until things are "set in stone" then you miss out on lots of prayers and encouragement. It isn't a burden or an effort for us to care!
Hope things work out for the best!

Sorry to hear about the ear, and the possible surgery/lack of. Just starting to get caught up on everyone's journals since I'm boosting (ok, some people might call it using without permission) off of my FIL's internet service from next door :D. I think, if it was me, I'd probably be relieved to have no hearing at all. Not so much because I wouldn't miss it, because I would, but because then I wouldn't be in some sort of halfway state where I can kinda barely hear, but not really. Some days I think my life would be easier if I could just use hand gestures to communicate everything, instead of just some things ;) . I'm glad the SSI worked out for you this time. I used to get food stamps when I was really sick, and it was barely enough to feed a small child for a week. :woot on the homemade breakfast as well. :)

Just remember, we aren't here just for the good times. We are all here for the good, the bad, the exciting and the boring :) And just because it got postponed doesn't mean you didn't need the encouragement and support! Lean on us, because we lean on you :)

:hugs

So we sold the final remaining two ducks today. I only made 25.00 off of them, but they were not productive, so they were pretty much a financial loss. They are going to a home that has just ducks, no chickens. I had already taken over the duck area and converted it into the Buck Palace, so the ducks had been temporarily housed in the veggie garden. They were a fun project and educational, but I don't think I want ducks again. Their poop smells too much and they are too hard to pluck. I'm allergic to their eggs, and while we loved the meat from the drakes, we sure hated plucking. Since we recently expanded the rabbitry, our meat production will need to come from those bunnies.

We lucked out and stocked up on animal food RIGHT when they happened to be having a sale on all the products we use. That was sure a blessing. I don't know how we hit it so lucky. I found the 7 percent iodine I need for the kids when they are born for their navel area as well, so I'm a happy camper.

I did NOT end up having that surgery. It has been postponed due to insurance, I may not have it now.

I found the coolest calender/almanac at the feed store for next year, I love it! Now I can plant by the cycles of the moon and it gives lots of neat information like the right day to breed your animals, plant corn, and how old animals need to be to be bred.

I also managed to pick up a copy of Ten Acres Enough for my Kindle, which is a book I've heard recommended several times. So I had quite the interesting day!

Happy Weekend!

I think I might raise some meat ducks again someday, but unless I had a natural pond, I would not want to keep ducks year round again. Perhaps because our climate is wet and muddy, they made the poultry yard even smellier and more muddy....or perhaps it is just the mud is more disgusting with duck slime on top. I had several die mysteriously and I really hated that. I hope the person who bought them has better luck than me. I think my environment just isn't conducive to ducks.
My chickens thrive in the same space.....so I'll stick to chickens.

I do love duck eggs! Hubby loves the meat, but I HATE to clean them, such a pain. Ducks are adorable and funny. That about sums them up for me.

I will never again have ducks unless I can have them on an ornamental pond and only for pretty with the occasional egg. I am with you - chickens are so much nicer to keep than the diarrhea factory that is a duck.

And that smell......:sick

I'm not fond of the smell of any type of poo, but duck poo is especially bad. People say guineas have the stinkiest poo, so I have been so far reluctant to give them a try.

The garden looked a little lonely this morning without the ducks in there, but I really don't miss them. My gorgeous chicken collection is plenty of poultry for me. I am really enjoying how beautiful my current flock is. They are not particularly great at laying eggs at this moment, I think there are a few renegade nests out there in the free range area. Either my new ones are not laying or they are laying out in the wilds. The EEs are all excellent flyers and free range in an area where I did not allow the other chickens. But they all return each evening and are probably cheap as heck to feed, they are rarely home. They do not seem full grown so I'm not sure if they have even begun laying eggs. I hope they catch on to the nest boxes is my only concern, they seem to be able to easily evade that dog that has gotten some of my others (either that or the dog is gone, I haven't seen him for awhile).

Hubby has decided to build a carport. Why now, I'm not sure (we have lived here three years) but I'm glad he has gotten the urge. I don't know how far the project will get this weekend, he isn't feeling well at the moment. Bindi Jo told me he was feeling "weird" because of how she was acting. He didn't mention it, but she was laying on top of him with a worried expression and I knew he was getting the feeling he gets. It is like she is a seizure-detection dog. She alerted me to his feelings this morning, without saying a word. He was thinking he didn't need so much of his medication. :smack
