This is a copy of a short message I sent via link to my Congressmen and Senators. Staements to public officials is a recent big step with me; always before, I have been a stay under the radar type of guy. The last election, a stae representative called asking for my vote, and left a number to call. I did, and really enjoyed the conversation we had. Since then, I have been much more open about saying what I belive in and want from my government representatives. Like Tallmans quote, somebody better speak up, before there is no one left to be heard.

"In regards to various articles concerning food safety laws that potentially threaten the operation of farmers markets and local produce farmers...does corporate America now recquire regulation of our very dietary habits? While I do believe in some type of inspection to ensure food safety, must everything be irradiated, x-rayed, frozen, packaged, and triple dipped in yellow dye number 5 to feed corporations insatiable demands. Do not drive out the little guy...believe it or not there is room for both. How about some corporate legislation to watchdog thier sly ways; considering the current economic nose dive, thats going to hurt many more than a fleck of dirt on a lettuce leaf."

Many legislators have a delay in receiving their mail because it goes to a facility first to be scanned. Some state this on their websites. It took ours 2 months to receive a letter from us. If your legislator publishes a local address it can be quicker than their capital address. Don't be discouraged if you don't get a response right away. On the other hand, if it is important to you, don't wait to write because of the mail delays.

A hand written letter is usually taken more seriously than an email, too.
Emails are categorized when received with a generic thank you back.
If the legislator has a special interest in a subject they will have a form dedicated to it, otherwise it's just numbers.
This has been our experience.

You might want to Go to www.organicconsumers.org to take action on HR 875. This is posted after a rational opinion about HR875 by OCA. That's the Organic Consumers Association. Check it out there may be some USEFUL info on it.

It looks like they might actually be more or less in the middle. Not too many sights like that.
