Until then I'll make sure I learn as much as I can and do as much as I can. Just in case, and love doing so.
The food tastes better, the things we make ourselves make us feel accomplished and watching the chickens keeps us giggling.

Actually THAT is ME. My SIL is a chain maille armor maker and also collects swords!

The picture was taken in my D1's kitchen last week!






Seriously she looks almost exactly like my Great Grandma Molly years ago! :/

We also have a lot of SCA folk around here, or Renaissance Faire Folk if nothing more! My D1 sounds a lot like the woman in your tale. I can only imagine what she looked like, a year or so back, racing out her back door with long bow in hand to apply a few arrows into the coyote that was trying to eat her goose!
