I would wonder if you could truly do this economically. You would have the fuel to go get the water. Also you would need to collect more water than folks in the lower 48 to achieve similar results. The farther north you go the less salty the water is.

I think BBrooks is doing what I do. Getting the water when near the ocean anyways, and putting it in a pan on the woodstove since it is going full-time all winter and a pan of water helps keep the air in the house from getting too dry. Might as well use that energy for multiple purposes and get more bang for your buck.
