I'm selling my rabbits. Not in a suicidal way. I just feel its time to let go. I'm working more and I can't be there to rotate them in the outdoor pens and make sure they're not too hot. I would worry the entire time I was at work. I have 2 good leads. One lady can definitely rehome/resell all of them. She is a breeder. Another lady I like better but hasn't committed.

Plus I realized that I'm trying to keep up with the Jones. You guys. Wanting to be more SS to keep up with some of you who are very SS.

I have some more income now, so we're going to save towards getting property outside of the city. Hopefully combining his want to be on the lake plus my want to be zomed agricultural and have a mini-farm.

I'm feeling very un-SS, but licking my wounds and reminding myself that I'm debt-free.

I'm keeping my cages. I know I'll have rabbits again someday. I'll choose a non-wooled meat breed. As much as I love the angora I need a reality check - I don't sell the wool, I don't use the wool, and it is a lot of work to maintain.

I'll keep my son's little rabbit. I might keep another that has an adorable personality - but my neigh bor REALLY wants her so I might do that too. See her once in a while, but not having to clean up after her!

I feel like I'm a disappointment here. :(

You are doing exactly what you should be doing. You're aware of your limits and acting in the best interest of the livestock. AND you're saving up for property and you're debt free. Ain't nothin' to be ashamed of or disappointed over.

Everyone here is at a different level of SS. There's no need to feel that you need to keep up w/anyone. You need to do what's right for YOU!!!!! :hugs

It is just a change. Don't worry about it. You are doing what is best for you. "everything" has a time in your life.

I shut down a major farm biz. I felt the same way--for a bit....NOW I AM THRILLED with my new found free time and less work LOL

so yea, your feelings will change. Hang strong and follow your gut instincts on your futre! :)

You have to do what is right for your life. We decided no garden this year. We just can't do everything. Instead, we will support local people and buy from the many vegetable stands in our area.

Aww, don't feel bad! One of the worst things we do is to compare ourselves to other people. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! And being debt free is a huge thing in today's society.

There's a lot of us on here that aren't as self sufficient as some of the others. I don't have rabbits, won't butcher my hens and my pantry is getting on the low side. We all have different levels, so don't worry about it.

The fact that you have the knowledge to take care of yourself if something happened is paramount. Be Happy!

Disappointment? No way! You do what you have to do, when you have to do it. I want to raise meat rabbits so bad, but it's just not feasible right now. Being debt-free is the golden ring, not keeping up. Congrats!!!!! And good luck on your property search. Lakeside acreage would be amazing!
