I thought this would be a good thing to do....I have a couple of things that I do that make holidays a little easier and thought I would share. I know we all do things a little differently and maybe this would be a good way to share ideas.

Tip #1---put your strings of lights on those bright orange extension cord rollers. You can get these anywhere. Use one for each different area that you use lights. I have one cord keeper for the house lights, one for the tree lights, one for the fence lights (right side) and one for the fence lights (left side). I label each one and keep all of them in a rubbermaid container and each year I know where everything goes and no tangled lights!

Tip #2--- use a roll of butcher paper and stamps to let your children make their own wrapping paper. This is a great rainy or snowy day project and the kids just love using the stamps!

Tip #3---color code your childrens presents. Wrap each child's presents in a different color and that way you don't have to do labels or tags. Each child knows automatically which presents are theirs. Santa's presents either don't get wrapped at all or get their own color scheme too!

Tip #4---if you have children that love to play dress up hit the thrift stores right after halloween and around christmas time to get fancy costumes and dresses for next to nothing! Our local Salvation Army has one day of the week when all clothing is 50% off. It's a great way to let your kids be creative without breaking the bank, I even got a fancy $20 sleeping beauty princess dress for $2.

Okay, so here are some of mine, now share yours! Happy holidays everyone!!!

This one makes it easier on the parents in the morning...my parents did this, and so did I.
Leave on gift unwrapped under the tree for each child. This gift they are allowed to play with until mom and dad have gotten out of bed...it really will give you an extra hour to sleep:>)

just kidding :p !

Honestly, I've just given myself permission to not do the whole Christmas go hog wild thing.

We have slowed way down on the gift giving, I've made all my gifts for friends & family this year. DD is getting a few items, but not near what she used to get. Hubby and I are getting just a couple things, but they are really for the family.

I just won't allow it to become a stressful time. As a family we are trying to get back to the whole reason for the season. We celebrate the birth of our savior. That's pretty much it.

Skip the decorating and gift-giving part. DON'T skip the candy-making cookie-making and family-getting-together part :)

ETA: Maybe a better way of putting it would be to do the things that are soothing, enjoyable or energizing to you and skip the parts that are stressful, frazzling and really not fun.

This is basicly whatr we have done the last few years as well...Christmas is just not a big deal at our house...and sooo much less stress!
Some freinds of mine had a real neat idea...they actually used to celebrate Christmas dinner with a "Happy Birthday Jesus" cake. Children LOVE celebrating birthdays!

For the right reasons...

but I have learned over the years that it never has to be stressful....I bring that on myself and learned to change that..LOL

Relax and enjoy the season.....you make it what feels right and don't give in to the pressure of doing what other choose to do!
