That's wonderful that she bought all 12 goats!

I, too, am waiting on the next chapter. I wanna know how the goat kids are doing! :p

No new babies so far today, but then, the weather was perfect so of course they're not going to kid. They'll wait till the weather takes a dive again and it's cold, damp and miserable. The little fellow born yesterday is still sorting out his "landing gear" but he's able to sort of struggle to his feet now, at least for a few seconds. His hocks are still bending both ways, which is really bizarre to see, but the joints will firm up in time.

Today was an unbelievably busy but incredibly productive day. Two of the things I desperately wanted done before I start chemo is the pen cleaning and the goats' foot trimming. This morning, one of my neighbors had the time to come with his bobcat and get started on the pens and a couple of friends came to help trim feet. This couple at one time had over 400 does, so they are REALLY good at trimming feet. It only took a couple of hours and my whole herd was done! The neighbor did what he could on the barnyard and will come back next weekend to finish up. It would have been nice if we could have gotten the barn cleaned out so I could re-bed it, but it's not too bad in there right now.

I hate calling on people to do these jobs for me, but my surgery site keeps filling up with fluid, even though it's been over a month since the surgery. The doctor has to drain it every 3 days and keeps telling me to take it easy. Yeah, right.

Sheri, thanks for your wisdom on the hay, it was VERY helpful. I'm so glad you joined our forum, I really appreciate you. I would FREAK OUT if I had a kid whose hocks bent both ways.....and spend hundreds on vet bills for vets who would say....hmmmmm...! It makes me feel more secure knowing you are just a keystroke away...

So try not to lose too much sleep over neighbors helping you. You would do the same if you could, and so many of us would be happy to help you out if we were your neighbors. :hugs

Some of us.....and you know who you are......would be buying up the goats!

Two more new babies this morning, a pair of purebred Boer girls!! :woot

I have only one picture of them so far, and to me it's quite cute, but it does show some of the inevitable "cleaning" the dam goes through after kidding (translation, goop hanging out of her) and I'm not sure if I should post that picture here. If you think it's okay, let me know and I'll post it. In the meantime, for your viewing pleasure, here's some of the goating's on around here. :)

Willy1SM.jpg

This is Willy, the little guy we've been bottle feeding. He's so cute I just couldn't stand the thought of him going for meat and since he's not purebred, that would normally be his destiny...so, yesterday, I slipped a band on him and he will become a pet whether.

These are Breeze's kids. The one in the foreground is the fella who was having trouble standing, but I'm pleased to say he's able to stand on his own now. Notice his sister behind him and her super curly coat?

CUTE, CUTE, CUTE! Way to cute, those baby goats! You amaze me, I know you are going through a lot by reading your posts but determination and knowledge and strength come through your posts as well. Amazing!

How adorable they are Sheri!

Glad to hear you have gotten some help. Sounds like your friends really kicked butt getting the hooves trimmed! You have some great friends and neighbors; and that is a true blessing. What goes around, comes around, so you will most likely be in a position to help them in return. It is the old way, which unfortunately, isn't seen much these days.

Babies all over the barn! Went out yesterday morning and found a set of triplets. Two were close to momma, but one was way off in the corner of the barn. I almost didn't see her. There's one good sized boy, and two tiny ones, a boy and girl. They're doing well, and the dam raised triplets last year just fine.

Got a start on my chicken yard yesterday, but quickly got really frustrated having to stand there and tell DH what to do, then watch him struggle with the heavy work. I'm seeing the doctor AGAIN to drain the fluid build up and see what the heck we'll have to do to get it to stop permanently. It`s been almost 6 weeks since the surgery. This is getting ridiculous!

ETA: Forgot to mention: got 7 eggs yesterday and the day before there were two colored ones! They`re a very pale blue/green and just beautiful!

The babies are adorable! Don't you just love the colored eggs? I have an easter egger that lays the most beautiful mint green eggs you've ever seen!
