What a roller coaster this week has been! It started on Monday when I went to see my family doctor about a sore spot under my left arm. I was really worried it might be a sign the cancer had spread, but that is also right where my PICC line is, so I also thought it could be something to do with that.
Turns out it was the PICC line, which is a blessing, I suppose, considering the alternative, but it's still going to be a challenge. Due to the PICC line, I've developed a blood clot, so now I'm on two different types of blood thinners, including one that I have to inject into my stomach area, like insulin.
At the same time we were dealing with all this nonsense, the PICC line decided to stop working. I don't know if it was directly related to the clot or not, but at one point they were making rumblings about having to remove the PICC line and I flat out told them that if they did, I would be stopping the chemo. I don't have any good veins left in my left arm so starting an IV is a nightmare. They cannot use my right arm for anything, not even blood pressure, because I had the lymph nodes removed from that side two years ago.
So, I ended up going to Regina, three hours away, on Wednesday and they got the PICC line going again. I'll have to continue the blood thinners for a while yet, but once they're happy with how they're working, it will be only the oral one. I can't wait for that because the injectable stuff stings!
On a happier note, I made a stew today, using my own vegetables. It's not even done yet and it's positively the best stew I've ever made. Homegrown peas, carrots and potatoes. Yum!!
