You can buy distilled water in gallons in the baby department... also usually where there are irons/ironing boards. Distilled water in an iron keeps from getting stains on clothes if you iron and use the steam setting. And keeps things like iron in the water, or in our case , limestone, from clogging up the iron and ruining it.
Powdered baby formula is suggested to mix with distilled water so that you don't use tap water.... no pathogens, no iron or anything that can bind up nutrients in the powdered formula... I never knew they sold it like that until one day I just happened to walk down that aisle on the way to something further away and saw it.

We buy it because our water here in the village is full of calcium. Well water is iron heavy. I always use bought water for the canner or water bathing

Heh heh heh.
My wife snd I am becoming an influence on my cousin's wife. She is concerned about food shortages possibly looming. We are sharing our preserving efforts in a private FB group.

My cousins are used to my aunt canning, but it was just the basics, veggies and tomato based sauces. The meats and complicated recipes are new to them, as is the dehydrating.

It's great fun!

Is there a shortage of distilled water that I don't know about? We buy it for DH's cpap and thankfully I've not noticed any shortage.

I went shopping at Walmart a few days ago. Big shortage of frozen foods of any kind. I was seriously wondering what was wrong. After I left there I went to Kroger and headed straight to the frozen food aisle. Totally stocked. I think I just hit Walmart too early in the morning, lol.

There was a distilled water shortage here for many months. It's eased off in the last 2. I now keep several gallons on hand and buy to replace what is used to rotate. I use for hubby's cpap and my incubator. Last summer it started as water was in very high demand so people were buying it to drink. :sick

High iron water around here, and even with the filter you can taste it unless it's got something in it like tea.

The village water destroyed our ice pellet maker and coffe maker from the scale. Distilled is all we use now for coffee. Ice maker yet to be replaced.

The small local place usually is well stocked. The big chain store, it depends on the day of the week and when the shelves are actually stocked on delivery days

I think the short staffing is to blame. One section may be completely stocked and the next section is bare
