...debt limit crisis, faltering economy, rising crime, general bad news.....

I thought I'd like to open up a thread just to take a breath and reflect on something positive for a change.

Earlier this morning I went out to pick red beets to can later this afternoon. The sun was shining, the ground was covered with a heavy dew. The chickens were clucking in pure happiness and scurrying around trying to decide where to start grazing as I let them out to free range. The dogs found a sunny and warm dry spot under one of the trees and just sprawled out in summer morning bliss. The smell of my hot coffee and the disturbed soil was like a refreshing tonic to my soul. The garden corn is beginning to go into tassel and we'll have melons ready in a few weeks. Very relaxing and peaceful.

Anyone else have a moment like this lately that you would share with us?

My coop is divided into two halves by a framed wall covered with poultry netting. I have a rooster in each side, and lately they have been going at each other causing the poultry netting to become loose in a spot. This morning, as I was sitting in shavings and chicken poop while enjoying the indescribable aroma of a chicken coop on a hot and humid July morning, with sweat running into my eyes and into a couple of deep scratches in my arm (from one of the roos trying to get through me to get to the other roo), I was thinking almost the same thoughts. It's just another day in Paradise, life is good, and I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

I get those moments often in the early morning when I'm out caring for my animals, especially when it's not too hot out. I feel peace, and KNOW this is the type of life that's right for me.

I don't worry. Crappola happens. Times are repeating themselves thru history. Politians can't fix anything so that doesn't change LOL

Only thing I can do is the best I can and enjoy my life to the fullest. And I do that!

For me the sun is a wonder. Sunny blue sky Carolina days makes me feel great. I just love to wake up to full sun days and kick back and relax and enjoy that warmth (well, now it is a tad hot LOL) but our winters etc are wonderful here.

I enjoy living in the South. Something laid back and wonderful down here. I wouldn't be anywhere else and I know no matter what junk happens to the economy etc. I will be fine. As best I can. Cause others thru the centuries have lived worse I am sure!

Enjoy life. Keep informed tho and make good decisions on how to ride the wave, but never let it ruin your day to day livng. Smile smile smile and kick back and enjoy the sunshine! :)

Life is good on this farm also! :D

I try to do this every morning. In between sending DH off to work and my kids crawling out of bed. I usually piddle around the garden with my coffee in my p.j's. Just observing the start of the day.

I start my day everyday being thankful that I woke up! This morning I am enjoying working in the flower garden deadheading with the chickens clucking. The hay guy is in the south pasture, love the smell of fresh cut hay. Less humid today, look across the valley and see all the other farmers taking in hay. Enjoying the inner peace of my life, life is too short!

I milked my four does this morning, as I do every morning and evening. No matter how tired I am or in a hurry or how bad the mosquitoes or if it is thunder and lightening out (gorgeous day today, although a bit hot, it is breezy) I love the special time with each one and we bond more and more each day. I love to put my face against them and breath their scent deeply. I love the way each one looks into my eyes. I love the way each one comes when called by name, usually calling in answer to me. I love the gallons of precious white milk lined up in the fridge, ready for cheesemaking.

Speaking of cheesemaking.......

This morning I gave thanks for the inch of much needed rain we received overnight.

I am thankful every day I am vertical.

Took a walk in the woods today and had one of those moments where the sunlight was coming through the tree canopy and a light breeze was blowing. Shadows were dancing on the forest floor. The group I was with all seemed to sense it too and it was silent for a good few minutes.

I invited my dad over to give him samples of all the fermented goodies I've made :D

He loved the blueberry sauce and the salsas! I'm going to make him his own full batch of the carrot-daikon mix.
