so how complicated was crisco water lye a and lavender? too much? crisco lye and water I'm not really sure how much more I can leave out. Kind of like going back to 1860'd and having the surgeon wipe his scapel's on his pant's don't you think? And believe me practical on plastic dummies inNO way prepares you for some one to go into cardiac arrest in front you or start bleeding out, and that was after I had my license for a year.

OH forgot that was also after having experienced the day where 21 HS students were shot and brought into the ER where I was a student. Nothing prepares you for the real thing no matter what it is until you do it simple or complicated. I don't care if it is doing a code on a stabbing victim, a sids baby, trying to cast a leg that has almost been severed in two, or making some damn soap.

Oh for crying out loud. For real, just forget it. Good luck with your soaping endeavor. I'll stick with trying to help people who aren't quite so defensive about everything.

I made a 4 lb batch last night (Tropical Vacation Scent) with my new wood mold and I'm so excited!!! :weee I'll cut it tonight and see how it did! :weee Smells wonderful!
Oh my! From Brambleberry? They sent me some as a sampler. I've been honestly thinking about making smaller batches just so that I can use some of the samplers they send me. This scent was delicious!

Which colorant are you using? I'm still debating on which one to go with. Trying to stay as natural as possible, yet get a good color for some swirls. I have natural spice colorants, but haven't touched them yet. I think I'm going to be sticking to pigments here soon if I can't come up with a better idea. :/

Seriously nursing student, how much more simple could the recipe get? for Crying out loud. What you are hearing is even the basic didn't work. Telling me about all my experiences in nursing as a comparision just doesn't come close. Especially if you haven't been there done that have the t-shirt, bad back, and are now out trying something else from burn out. If you were a new nurse asking about things like I've described...all I could tell you is stay in your shoes because your shoes will stay in the room no matter how fast you bolt out of them. Part of the reason I climbed that ladder faster than others was seeing the worst early, staying in my shoes, and learning. But my teachers other nurses told me what I did wrong, how to do it right and so on.
Right now I have followed the advice given it failed and and you tell me to go more basic. what part should I leave out?

No, quite frankly, I mentioned that you should go simple earlier in the thread and you had a fit about it. I simply stated that a doctor wouldn't jump into brain surgery and now you're trying to act holier than thou by running on some random wild tangent about being a nurse? It's called an analogy. It has nothing to do with nursing at all, I'm simply saying that one shouldn't start soaping by jumping in full steam without doing one basic test batch first to get the basics. Now it's apparantly some silly contest over you being an old nurse and me being a young nursing student just starting out?! It's soap darling, and if you're not figuring out the basics, biting the head off of someone who's trying to help you isn't exactly the most charming way to get future help. As I said, good luck with your soap, I refuse to enter into some silly pissing match with someone. As much as I love soaping and helping and discussing soap with fellow soapers, it simply isn't worth my time to be degraded by someone else over it, period.

I did go to the basics and step away from brain surgery. it didn't work, it didn't look like it worked as posted as I went along and asked what I was doing wrong. You replied to go to the basics so apparrently you missed the post that I was trying crisco, water and lye with lavender being my only extra. once I added the fo at trace it went to hell in a hand basket. You seemed to imply that I didn't understand the concept of starting basic by referring to my nursing. I hated leaving that job so it's a touchy subject that you may understand sometime. More sensitive is being told that I can't understand basic and that recipe can't get anymore basic than that. I came looking for help. I see new soaper posting great pictures and stories and I have pounds of gook that is good for absolutely nothing. I have a shop that took a nosedive in sales this month and I f I can't make this fly I really don't know how we will make it so yeah sensitive and defensive probably. Ready to jump in front of a bus that too...but successful soapers probably don't remember or know that kind of despairing feeling, especially when income depends on figuring it out

Perhaps it is a little like the "Brain" on Breakfast Club. Trig and Calculus were a snap, but he couldn't get the light to turn on on his shop project and it made him fall apart. ;)

What you can leave in and still have soap is a single type of fat, lye and water. I am beginning to wonder if you are measuring things correctly. ALL measurements are by weight. None by volume. Also where is the lye coming from? Is it 100 percent pure lye?

All things considered the best thing you can do is mellow out about this. Soap takes TIME. Time to trace, time to set and lots of time to cure properly.

What has become of the first trials? Are they still around? Have you checked them lately?

krisac, why don't you tell us exactly what you're doing in detail and maybe we can help you figure out what is going wrong. Tell us exactly what measurements of exactly which ingredients, which type of utensils, pots, etc you are using. I just started making soap and I'm finding it way easier than I thought. I'm no saying that to tease your or be rude, but perhaps there is something simply going wrong and that's what's giving you so much trouble. And what instructions are you using for your recipe? My sister bought me this book (but mine doesn't have the pic on the front :p) and it is so extremely helpful! I have made soap exactly four times now, and this last time I didn't even need to read out of the book. There must be something going on causing you trouble.

Betta-I got my scents from www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com. I got a bunch of the sample sizes and I'm loving trying new ones!
