Looking at that list though, it did give some new idea for using rags that I diligently save but only have used for cleaning. I think I will start a kitchen rag box.
BTW I use old plastic widow screening in the bottom of my pots to keep the dirt from washing out- I used the same set for years as they don't deteriorate.

I've used my broken terra cotta pots for that. I like the window screen idea too. On a similar note, I've used styrofoam packing peanuts to lighten large planters and for drainage. I cover the hole with a piece of broken pot, then layer in some peanuts, then add the soil.
