Poor things, I hope they're feeling better today! It was great that they warned you before you stepped on that snake.

thought i'd let youall know that both of my snake bite girls are doing ok. JJ's face has gone down nicely and she acts like she feels fine. emma on the other hand has been pretty lethargic all day. i'm not sure whether she feels bad because of the snake bite or because I over dosed her on Benadryl. time will tell on her. her age is the only thing that worries me.
because yesterday and today have been so much cooler with less humidity I worked outside cleaning rabbit cages. with the heat here for the last month or so I've just totally ignored them so today was the day. I am pretty sure the flower beds will appreciate a snack and I know for sure the bunnies appreciate the cleaning. nothing else new here. going to be cool again tomorrow so no telling what i'll get into.

Supposed to be cool all week here, high only 88 degrees. Today I babysat the neighbor kids while the parents went to the Dr, ate lunch, grocery shopped and bought school supplies. probably the first time they did something together with out kids in a long time.

Tomorrow morning I have errands to run in town, DH is taking oldest grand daughter out to lunch and shopping for school shoes. Thursday we're baby sitting our 3 grand daughters. I just HAVE to get something done around here while it is so cool!!!

So glad that your dogs are ok!!!

thought i'd update youall on the dogs. JJ is doing just great, you'd never know she had been bitten by a copperhead. emma on the other hand is still a little off, just not back to her rotten self. I keep telling myself that she is old and it's just going to take her a while. time will tell.
took 4 lambs to the sale this week and got a fair price for them. $377.00 for 3 ram lambs and 1 eweling. $ will come handy, car and house insurance both due.

just to prove to youall that I don't have a lick of sense I ordered some more chicks. i'm covered up with ducks but it seems that almost every hen I've had sitting has lost their clutch to those danged black snakes this year and since I only have a few cross bred hens I decided to get some new girls. I love a mixed flock so I got 3 black australorps, 4 rhode island reds, 3 barred rocks, 3 silver laced wyandottes, 3 speckled Sussex pullets and a black australorp roo. love a box full of fluff butt babies.
got some of the winter hay for the goats and sheep a few days ago and the gentlemen who delivered it asked me if I had a broodie hen and i'm like ummm no but I've got 2 brooding ducks and one of them has just started to set so we could use her. he had 15 turkey eggs he wanted to set so mama duck gave her 8 eggs to one of dstr1's broodie hens and I have one duck setting on a bunch of duck eggs and the other is sitting on the turkey eggs. I have never raised turkeys but I guess there is a first time for every thing.
@NH Homesteader you are going to have to be my go to turkey girl because I don't have a clue how to raise them. also nh homesteader I was reading about you having to go fish pig feed pans out of the mud so I thought I would show you what I do to avoid having to do that. the tubs I use have a sort of handle with a hole in the middle of it so I thread a rope thru the hole and tie a knot in of it so it won't pull out and then I tie it to the fence up close so I don't even have to go in with them. has worked for me for years, have never had them chew thru a rope to get it loose or bust up the tub. remember me i'm the person who is chicken to go in with them if I don't absolutely have to

:love Getting fresh stock in the chicken pens is sensible. The old hens are not going lay forever… ;)

I like your idea with the pigs' bowl. I shouldn't done something like that, especially with the sow I had once. She used to get terribly worked up and impatient at feeding time, while was trying to hook her food bowl and drag it closer to the fence so I can fill it. One day I was leaning as far as I safely could over the fence, wrestling with the hook and bowl and she got a bit too impatient... I heard her squeal and the next moment I had a 200lbs pig crashing into my ribs! She took a short running start, jumped up high enough to reach me and rammed me. I've never had or seen a pig do that before. Thankfully she didn't injure me badly, but I was furious! I dumped her food right there in the mud and said that's it, you're coming to dinner!

Ouch!! My pig loves to play with her food dishes, and stash them in weird places. I'll have to ask my husband if he'll tie them up for me, thanks!

Turkeys aren't too hard. You need to make sure you feed them high protein feed (we start with 24%) and that you have a way to keep them contained because wow can they fly! Do you know what breed(s) they are?

@NH Homesteader I have no clue what kind they are he just said they are the ones that look like wild turkeys. you'd think I would find out what i'm getting into but nope I just jump in with both feet. is the 24% food a game bird food? the mama part of me has to ask... you are taking care of yourself aren't you?
the piggy looks really good. I've still got the bacon bit out there eating me out of house and home. i'll be so glad when its time for him to go to camp. have two sheep to butcher this fall too. a full freezer is a happy freezer indeed.
