Sorghum

Well I got the sorghum chopped and leaves off finally today , saved the heads to make flour .
Now the hand cranking juice making starts then to boil it and finally maybe a pint .
Any others out there do the sorghum hobby farm thing .

I've looked into it but don't feel capable of actually getting it done. I've seen some very nice sorghum presses, but it's so much physical labor.

I'm going to try a little grain sorghum next year. Mostly just for the chickens as the silkies like it. For them I don't even have to remove it from the heads.

Try to thresh the heads for yourself Sorghum flour is a gluten free flour, can be used with or without other flours , Makes great pancakes !!

I've tried sorghum, a grain type, though I don't think it came with a variety name. It was hugely productive. Produced an incredible volume of grain.

Wheat won't set heads here. Sorghum should actually grow very well in our climate.

Good production from minimal land...especially for birds! I don't use enough flour for the time to grind. But nice to know you can -- in case.

You can use the head for cereal grains , flour , livestock, etc , I save my skimmed foam from the juice cooking add it to crimped oats for the horses
