Speed reader on Cap. Hill. Was this supposed to be funny?

The "letter of the law" tells us that we must have all bills read so we have speed reading.

The "spirit of the law" tells us that we must have everyone in the chamber know exactly what they are voting on so we have speed reading. :th

I'm sure that all can grasp which of the two is most important, and which of the two Congress actually fulfills.

A 900 page bill isn't a bill, it's a straight-jacket. There shouldn't be 900 page bills. Period.

If they don't know what is in the bill, then they shouldn't be voting for it.

The "stimulus" bill was a prime example. It had to be passed right away or the nation was going to collapse or something (so the president told congress). So the idiots passed it, not knowing what was in it. Then the bill sat on the presidents' desk for four days before he got around to signing it.

Somebody recently figured out that we have enacted 35 million laws to enforce only ten commandments.

The more corrupt the republic, the more numerous the laws. ~Tacitus, Annals

Obey gravity! It's the law.

If the bill needs to be 900 pages long, then you need to take more time. Rushing a bill you don't understand and don't have time to read is just plain wrong. Saying it is too long is a pathetic excuse.
