Good day all. Cool start here and a cold one (for here) tomorrow. It always bounces up and down. I keep reading and hearing all over the "If you don't like the weather here, Just wait 5 minutes and it'll change". But that was made famous by an Okie Will Rogers. And believe it after working and hearing it in some places and thinking no, no, not really it's just always this.
Oddly I end up, up north for a lot of winters. Headed to N.D. once to start work after Jan 1st so I spent the New Years Eve up there 30f colder than the house. Again oddly without the humidity I actually took a layer off going from about 30f at home to 0f up there. I was hoping central WA would be like that with the dry dry dry summer but when it got cold it was like being at home.
Morning y’all, going to be sunny for a couple of days before the rain and cloudiness comes back. Going to finally get the garden going.
Been picking dewberries, the early version of wild blackberries. Got 5 quart zip lock bags in the freezer. The berries are still ripening so we’ll pick until they are gone. They are free, growing in fence rows at the road, so why not! The wild plum trees are loaded. Late frost last year took them all out. In August we’ll be picking elderberries. I got a feeling it will be a bad flu season.
5 quarts at a time is a pretty good run BAY. It's warming up here and looks like 5 days of rain next week. Need to get the garden finished before then.
Around here our elders are just putting out pods for soon to open flowers, then berries. I watch every back road for good spots. Have 4 good patches here on the farm but, always am on the lookout. Last year. First time ever! I had others picking in several places I use. Like, wowser.....who told them?! Plus it was a little dry when berries formed, so less good ones. I still have juice canned, some frozen berries and some dehydrated ones. Always be prepared.
Garden, I swear this weekend will plant!!!!!!
I mean, who would want to miss canning season?? . Plus, 3 bell peppers were $3.79 in store! Ok red, yellow, orange but, grow like a green one.....and those were 79 each. Plus I'm not paying $1.29 a lb for bruised up squash. Haven't even touched on healthy, chem free and JUST PICKED! Awwwh, that makes you feel good.
Amazon driver decided to bring my packages to the doorstep, instead of the deck box by the drive with the sign saying to leave them there.
My chickens hang out by the door, especially since I'd just tossed catfood out for them a couple minutes prior since they were begging. The driver was watching Leven the entire time and wouldn't turn his back on him. He said something to Leven but I didn't catch it. It was the voice that drew my attention.
So driver was paranoid about the rooster, but the rooster was just giving him the headcock and "bu bu buc? (treat?)"
