Drinking coffee and relaxing. We are tired. Customer is picking up her 10 chickens tomorrow and we will slaughter 10 or 12 more. 4 more people want a few chickens totaling 10 more. DD and the 3 granddaughters are coming Monday evening and staying until Thursday or Friday morning. So no chicken slaughter while they are here. Most grandparents are exhausted when grandkids leave, we look at it as fun and restful. LOL

DD and family only want breast meat. This year, I’m doing thigh meat, skinless and boneless for them. Picky. I’ll can all the back pieces from the rest of the chickens for the dogs. Why take up the freezer room?

Coffee is ready! We slaughtered 10 chickens yesterday, I’ll cut and vacuum seal today. Heavy storms and thunder woke me up several times last night, still raining but will clear off around noon.

@Ceciliasflock i want Jubilee Orpingtons and White Rocks. Maybe next year. Right now I have red sex links layers and some young pullets that TSC called Marans sex links. There is a rooster with a cloudy dark barred pattern snuck in the group, so who knows what they are. For the first time in my life, I want to actually have a permanent coop READY for them BEFORE I get them. I must have fever.........

yes, rainy day contemplation going on this morning here too. just finished some hot chocolate for breakfast.

busy with weeding and projects.

very cold forecast so i'm glad we haven't planted too much of the warm weather starts out yet. we were planning on doing some of that planting tomorrow but i'm going to hold off for another day at least if i can talk Mom into it. she always just wants to get things done no matter what is coming next. i don't want to do all the work of planting and then lose the starts.

Hatch finished up overnight. Got to love how well Molly takes chicks and cares for them. Had to remove her to get a picture, though. All silkies. Partridge, blue cream, paint, and the one black.

Need rain protection and cannot free range because they can't see predators coming. Also 2 pounds or less of fluff can't scare anything off.

The black skin/meat/bones turns off some people even though they aren't as black as ayam cemani or svart hona. I make soup out of exta boys.

We potluck for my family's Halloween party and I'm thinking of taking chicken and rice soup using silkie and black rice.
