Winds started picking up and it's supposed to get stronger. The temp tarps over the chicken pens won't hold up well so I was just out in the dark, wind, and rain putting the greenhouse tarps on the wind side of the fences to block wind. Those things were just delivered yesterday and it's been heavy rain today.

I would love enough of those tarps to button up the pens fully for winter but I have to wait on money. Later.

I think there are still a couple rats out there, but hopefully we'll finish them soon. The heavy winter rains help with that problem. My yard is full of mole hills. It's a very good sign.

Went to bed early, some neighbors set of a few firecrackers at midnight. The reveling continued for a short time but, enough to wake me and NOW?? Just up. A car racing up & down the road --Who? Why? All very unusual. Very noisy. Very annoyed.

Gonna try to go back to bed/sleep.

Moles mean no rats. Rats chase off or kill all other rodents. I'd rather have the hills and uneven ground than the rats.

i consider them a good sign too. moles eat worms, grubs, other larger soil creatures. to me they say you have a functioning ecosystem.

The weather newscasters are warning everybody about the storms coming tonight. They have been talking this up since Monday. I have to laugh, they all say to hide in the basement. WTH? A ​

In Texas? Do these morons not know what geographical location they are in? Nobody has a basement here, the water table is too high for that. A lot of houses are built off the ground on blocks, depending on the weight of the building to hold it down. And they said if you are in a mobile home, LEAVE! Really? This Doublewide Diva ain't going anywhere and if I did, where? This storm stretches from one end of Texas up to the whole durned country, so just where am I leaving to that ain't hours and hours away? Dummies.

Oh and now they are touting emergency kits, water, batteries, radio, 3 day supply of food and water, change of clothes, work gloves, a week's supply of medication, shelter in place, don't get in your car and try to outrun a tornado and if you are in a mobile home, get in your car and try to outrun a tornado. Or get in a ditch or low place, my doesn't THAT sound attractive! We have a gully that exits out property, with towering trees on both sides, we do live Behind The Pine Curtain here, ya' know. So we run out in the pounding rain and 80 MPH winds to the gully, the tornado passes over and we look like a porky-PINE with a ga-zillion pine toothpicks embedded in our hides? Maybe we can just sit in our doublewide and get transported to the Land of Oz. Now where did I put those ruby slippers?​

On Today show yesterday, Al Roker says 2019 was the wettest year on record for the USA. And there were HUGE numbers of weather disasters, each in the billions of $$$. Major bad year.

I know we had THE wettest Spring here is something like 70 years. Was actually why I had no garden. Seemed like rain every day for a couple of months.

i don't know what kind of records we broke here - the end of Dec we added another 4-5 inches of rain to the total for last year.

the temperatures have been all over the place. frost heave damage is going to be interesting if this keeps up.

We had a super dry summer. Rain finally came back though and we have early mudslide season this year. That usually not until spring.

Some nasty wind outside right now. I spent three days getting the new cattle panel roof over the silkie pens. Was after dark when last tarp was tied down. Corners need tucked but the pens are ignoring the wind now even with that. I can reach both side with my broom, so Im ready for the expected snow.
