I wasn't posting opinion, just little known facts. Of course, if you want opinions from me... :gig

The pledge of allegiance kerfluffle just reminds me of that old Ann Landers letters where a woman always cut the ends off her roasts before putting it in the pan. Someone asked her why and she said because her mom did and she had never given it a second though. She then asked mom why she cut the ends off the roasts and she said it was because her mother always did and that is the way she was taught. Then mother and daughter went to grandma and asked WHY she always cuts the ends off the roasts before putting it in the pan. Turned out grandma had a short roasting pan. :D So, while we all may engage in activities and rituals, we sometimes don't know why or where they came from.

To me, it matters not how the pledge started. It has evolved into a symbol of respect for the country, at least in my opinion. It is a pledge to stand for what each believe the country should be. It is a show of respect, much as opening a door for somebody older and/or a man opening a door for a woman. It is something that we do together as a community in whatever function where are performing and for that, I think it has its merit regardless of its origin.

Just my .02.

It is fun to know where things originated though. I personally never have had issue with it myself. All good things come from God IMO anyway ;)
