Rebbetzin, smart husband you have there;) I agreewe need to have a better understanding of what we have. Our Father knows what we need @ all times but we easily forget when we start getting restless. Thanks for sharing

Solomon wrote this during a very dark period in his life, and I think he wrote it after God told him his family would loose Israel. Solomon, if you recall turned from God through his wives. He started to worship other gods, and forgot his relationship with God.

King David, Solomons father, had a different type of ending with God. Though David made many mistakes, he truly repented from his heart and was forgiven.

Solomon expressed his doom and gloom end of his life and basically stated why bother living a good/with God life?

I often wondered if wisdom was something he just didn't handle as well as he should have, it is after all a doble edge sword.

Also, was the reason Solomon tried to kill his son is because he was was going to be king, but God was going to take that away from him???

*** sorry for butting in ***

Butt in all you want. It's a good point, about his wisdom. I've heard of people w/great wealth that find it hard to handle because of the constant demands on them from people w/a hand out. Many people came to Solomon because of his wisdom. Maybe it got to him after awhile?

O, don't do that. Read chapter 12. It is one of the most informative and uplifting chapters in much of the Old Testament. It speaks to the subject of immortality so well.

1Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

2While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

3In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

4And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

5Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

6Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

7Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

I had to memorize most of it for a men's group to which I belong. It is one of hope and beauty.

Try it and see for yourself.

Of course, you do need to understand what he's talking about in that chapter, ie the grinders are your teeth.

Yeah, Chapter 6, does seem that way... :) But isn't this a reminder that our life is really not "ours", but in God's hands?

Hello friends. I have came to remind you that Ecclesiastes Chapter 7 starts tommorow, I postponed it for a day or two because it seemed like everyone was behind or was rushed. But tommorow Ecclesiaste Chapter 7 begins!
