I'll give it a go:

1. What state/province/country are you in and what is your climate like?

Coastal California, 100 miles south of San Francisco. It's a very mild climate.

2. How many people are in your family? Marital status?

I've been married for nearly 40 years. We have five grown children and 2 grandchildren.

3. How would you define self sufficiency?

Hardly ever having to go to the store.

4. What would you do with your spare time if you had any resources you needed?

I'd live in a small house in the country with no phone or electricity, surrounded by gardens, fruit trees and animals. And a creek.

5. Have you ever built a house , or other types of building? Do you want to?

No. Well, I collaborated on a chicken coop.

6. Can you weld? Steel, aluminum, MiG, TiG, stick, Oxy-Acet?

No. I can knit, though.

7. Who or what inspired you to become more self sufficient?

I have always felt this way, even as a little kid.

8 Cloth or paper?

Cloth.

9. In what ways are you self sufficient now and in what ways would you like to learn more?

We have a garden, a few fruit trees and some hens. I walk a lot, rather than use the car. My wardrobe has a very large percentage of thrift-shop clothes, I make bread and yogurt and most foods from scratch. I make most presents (knitting and crocheting.) I raise cage birds (finches and lovebirds) for sale. I would like to increase the size of my garden over the next year. I tutor from my home rather than going out and working for somebody.

10. In what way(s) will you never choose to become self sufficient?

I don't have what it takes to rig up alternative energy. Since I live in such a mild climate I'd probably do without electricity if I had to.

11. Are you interested in stocking up for future needs?

I am ambivalent about this.

12. Where do you end up when you sink into yourself, away from the outside world?

At the small house in the country mentioned in question 4. I think about this when I'm at the dentist.

13. Can you drive a farm tractor or a semi?

No. I don't even drive a car.

14. Do you make crafts or useful items? Would you want to teach others how to do these?

I can knit and crochet and I've taught others.

15. Can you have legally livestock where you are at? Do you have any? What kinds?

We live in a small town and are allowed four hens, which is what we have.

16. Can you operate a lathe? Metal, wood?

No.

17. Do you like to garden? If so, what do you enjoy growing?

Yes, it's my joy in life. I grow mostly cool-climate veggies. (Never gets very hot or cold here.)

18. Do you fish? Bait or explosives?

No, I don't fish.

19. How much space/land do you have or rent? City? Country?

Just a lot in town with a backyard.

20. Are you a Novice, Technician, General, Advanced? ARRL?

Probably not.

21. What is your self sufficient specialty? Or what one would you like to learn?

I am a Jane of many trades and a mistress of none.

22. If you could create a degree and curriculum, what would you major in and what classes would you take?

I have a degree in European History and that is just about perfect.

23. Do you do wood work? framing, finish, cabinet?

No.

24. Are you interested in herbal medicine?

Yes. I make a tincture of feverfew for my migraines.

25. If you could live any place you chose, where would it be?

After all the effort (35 years) I've put into our backyard I think I am content to stay here.

26. Do you use a wood stove for heating or cooking?

Not now be we used to.

27. What would your ideal super hero/villain be?

Jesus Christ is my hero.

28. Are your family or friends also interested in self sufficiency?

My sister is.

29. Do you like to cook? Are you interested in whole foods and natural foods? raw milk? farm fresh eggs?

Yes to cooking and whole foods, yes to fresh eggs, not interested really in drinking milk of any kind.

30. What was your MOS?

As in, Army job? I was in the Navy. I was a cryptography technician. (spook)

31. Do you forage or hunt for part of your food needs?

No but I find the idea appealing.

32. What skills do you have that help you be more self sufficient?

I can cook just about anything from scratch using available ingredients.

33. In which fictional universe would you most like to live?

Middle Earth, in the Shire.

34. Do you have solar panels? Plans to use solar energy?

No. It's not very sunny here.

36. Have you ever lived completely off grid? Would you like to?

No, yes.

37. In what do you trust?

I trust Jesus. I also trust my husband. And my dog.

38. Do you make things yourself to save money?

Yep.

39. Has trying to be more self-sufficient changed your attitude or habits about money/spending?

Yes, my goal is to avoid going to the store as much as possible. (Does Amazon count?)

Farmer Jamie, I grew up in NE Ohio (Ashtabula County) and I was planning to go to Hiram College. You live in a very beautiful part of the world for sure!

:welcome from SW Oregon ... but I grew up down in your neck of the woods ... in the fog on the Monterey Peninsula. Good climate for growing many things, though maybe not so much the ones that need a lot of heat.
