30yrs of on-going. my ex-step-dad never built a house that didn't leak (and he built at least four of them). you'd figure he'd have learned? nope. grrr! he's dead now.

on top of not figuring out how to flash a chimney he also made rather obvious bad mistakes on the flat roofing, flat roof edges and putting a gravel stop on the edge of the regular shingled part which caused a lot of destruction through the years. when we had the roof redone at 15 years they had to replace all of the decking along the edges and around the chimney up top.

but what's PO'ing me now is that we paid the more recent roofing people to reflash the chimney because the roofing people who redid it in 2011 made such a rotten job of it. now it might be that the redone job in 20?? (i don't have the exact date for that redo) wasn't very good. :(

oh, and you don't want to see the hack job done more recently that i saw the other day when i was up there. i really should have had my camera... and the issues with this hack job may be yet another indication that the reroofing job in 2011 wasn't done right in those areas either.

i'm tempted to write a pretty scathing letter to the roofing company from 2011... i see they are still in business... grr!

OH geeze! That's horrible. It would be nice if that company was still in business and you could get some resolution - but that's probably never. going. to. happen!

it won't if i don't try, but beyond that i just want the leaks fixed. really simple stuff, water, gravity, rocks, cement, metal, caulk, shingles, vents, nails. add in the hexagon shaped roof, beams which can move water down along them before it eventually drips, and less of a pitch than usual it seems to be too much for people's brains to figure out. and then add in the fact that Mom does not want to do anything to inspect from below (which would require removing some plaster and moving the insulation aside so we can look at the decking from underneath to see where the water is coming through). so we're stuck with guessing too much of the time.

intermittent.

we went through a small tornado going by without a drop.

we've gone 18 months without any leaks, but it has been getting worse this past year.

from one to two leaks (at least), not super big leaks, those we could figure out because they would be happening each time, just small leaks, but one of them drips right on Mom's bed - that's just not gonna work... it's only leaked a few times the past four years there, but we just need it to be fixed and done.

oh yay, i volunteered for another project... dumb me... it will help Mom a lot though so it will be worth it if i can find the right kind of gizmo that can lift her up about a foot and a half - she won't want to sit down to use it so it has to be a platform that moves safely.

unfortunately searching for lift doesn't give me much other than the sit down kind - nope... that won't do...

ah, after looking around i came across a gadget called a stair cane which gives a half step up. Mom says she can get one from a friend she's taking care of (who won't be using any of hers any longer :( ) so i just have to have her watch a video of someone using one and making sure she's willing to give it a try and to practice some to make sure it will work before going through the hassle of getting one and then finding out she won't use it (nobody does that right? *wry grin* and nobody is stubborn either ...)
