Solar shower bags are great. Mine was in the sporting goods section of Target and really cheap. You could hang the bag up from the shower bar if your bar is set into studs right. The bag will be heavy so don't try it if it's just an expansion bar for the curtain.

Bethanial...........do you happen to have a couple of the small propane tanks like you use on a BBQ grill? If so, the line from your big tank will fit on one of those small ones.

Around here, if you run your tank empty, most propane companies want to whack you for a "leak test" before they will refill the tank.

Im sorry about the gas issue...jeesh, thats tough. But, look at it as an opportunuty to try out those SS skills. YOu have a BBQ grill?? Heat your water there! You can always heat just enough for a good size bowl of washing water, and use a wash cloth. A few days wont be too bad. :D

We DO have a little rinky-dink toaster oven - I BAKED my scrambled eggs this morning! We do have a grill outside, too, that we could use.

Thanks, y'all, for all the funnies! That helps too :) Oh, and the house has electric heat, so we're still good, there.

NO GAS! :barnie The tank is empty, and it's 3 days before the gas company can come out and refill it. 3 days of no clothes dryer (meh - not huge), 3 days of no stove/oven (gonna get really good at cooking in the microwave), and most importantly - 3 days of NO HOT WATER! :he Let's see, if I boil 4 cups of water in the microwave at a time, I MIGHT have enough for a 1" bath in an hour or so?

Or I could pretend I'm camping, and build a fire in the yard....
Is it regular heating fuel? If it is you should be able to fill up a couple of gas jugs with diesel to put in there.

Our house (w/the exception of the wood stove) is all electric. We do have a generator for a power outage, but we don't have either the stove nor the hot water heater hooked up to it.

For cooking, I either use a propane camping stove, or a 2 burner hot plate.

For hot water for washing dishes or getting a shower, I heat up water in a pot. I have a battery operated, portable shower that I use to take a shower. It works quite well. If you don't have one, you can always just use a watering can, or even put some holes in the bottom of an old container, and use it as a shower.

Bbrooks, no - it's LP gas - liquid propane, so diesel won't work

as far as showers go, I'm a homesteader wanna-be, not there yet, so we're making do with cold spongebaths :ep (THAT'LL wake you up in the morning!) - one reason to be grateful this happened in winter and not in the middle of summer! (That woulda been stinky :sick ) Annnddd, my sister lives next door, so we can always go over there if it truly becomes necessary...

Connect a few water hoses, fill them with water and put them on a dark surface in the sun to heat water via solar. It works better than 4 cups at a time in the microwave :D May not be able to bathe, but useful for spongebath or dishes.
