I think the circle of metal works well but I tend to get corn flying EVERYWHERE.
Try it inside of your largest mixing bowl. There just has to be room for your hands to run the corn cutter all the way down to the bottom of the ear.

After years of picking corn bits off a five foot radius, I finally figured this out last year. It really helps! :p

My cousins wife was here this evening and we were checking out the corn cutter when she told me how she does her corn. She sets the cob in the center of her angle food cake pan and cuts the corn off. It just falls in the pan no matter which side your cutting or what tool you use to cut it with !! Isn't THAT a slick idea!!!!

I haven't had good luck with the longevity of the few Pampered Chef things I've had; but if it is the type with the adjustable circle of metal, sort of like a bandsaw blade curled around, that you push down over the whole cob at once, that type in general does work well :)

Pat, Pampered Chef is supposed to stand by their products for a lifetime. I'd get replacements if you can.

This is the type we use also. We have 2 x 4s with nails drive up through them to hold the cobs in place, then we go down the row with that tool. It's nice and speedy and easier on the hands than a knife. So glad corn processing is done here for the year!
