Another winning combo (in my book) is a spicy meat (like blackened fish, or spicy stewed chicken & sausage ) with mashed sweet potatoes
That does sound pretty good. I'm not a big sweet potato fan, but then I've typically only had them as a caserole, with the marshmallows on top, or in a pie. Occasionally my mom would "fry" some in butter, but they were the frozen, perfectly circular, grocery store ones :sick
Gonna have to give them the old college try... I know they are very good for you.

Thye are more than just good for you they are delicious when prepared properly ( or I should specify: in the way the I like!). That sweet sugary nasty casserole style is exactly why I never ate them.

One year DH and I went to Nawlins ;) with some friends. The dinner I ordered one night had mashed sweet potatoes with it. I figured, eh, I'll just leave them on the plate.....but I tried them and they we wonderful! Just mashed with cream and butter, no sugary junk added to them and I was so impressed, I have loved them ever since. Their sweetness really makes them pair nicely with something spicy...in my book :)

We put whole unpeeled sweet potatoes in with chicken in a baking dish, cover and bake till chicken is done. The sweets are like tender warm pudding in a jacket. Even tho I am unashamedly vegetarian, I have to admit this cooks them to absolute perfection.

I don't go for the candied sweet potatoes either. I just bake them like a potato, then spread a little butter, cinnamon and a dribble of honey on them.

Well clearly I am the odd man out....everyone here seems to like a little added sweetness to their sweet potatoes!

I am surprised!

Years ago, I found a recipe for "candied" sweet potatoes. They were not kidding. Called for 16 cups of sugar and 10 pounds of sweet potatoes. You added like a cup of orange juice and some spices. They were awesome, but you could really only eat one slice and then you had to chug a gallon of insulin.
