Hrm. We are in town, so I know that we wouldn't have a county tax assessor, in this case it would be city. When we purchased in '08, it appraised at $57K, and this is what the guy at the city said they were going off of in determining the SEV (which is supposed to be 50% of market value). We refied last month, new appraisal, still at $57K, which I thought was high back in '08 and is REALLY high now. So our taxes haven't changed. I really have no idea who to talk to, the guy in charge is real flaky and wishy washy and never has a straight answer for anything.
