So....did Lefty loose his left leg in an ironic twist to naming him LEFTY? :gig
Nope, he was the last pup from a litter of 11 (I think) and the owners were calling him "Leftovers" I told the kids that I didn't want to call him that and we came up w/ "Lefty" Then at about 9m he got out in the road and got hit. Nobody stopped or anything, my 8yr old found him in the road, unable to walk, and being the dog he is, he was just over 100#s so we put him in a blanket and pulled/slide him off the road. The vet tried to save the leg, but it got infected and had to come off. Thru all of this trama, we had to keep him and the leg clean, so into the house he came. That was last fall, and he's still in the house:/ The kids and my wife were too convincing  And the leg he lost??? his right one, so now he is really a Lefty

JR, I know, I can't wait to see how things work out, hopefully we don't lose a step and keep on rollin' along

I'm glad too!! Been lurking too long, just reading and watching.

I've been wanting pigs for awhile, but the kids are doing the goat thing in 4H. We've got 7 Boers, and 2 Toggenbergs, and I don't want to feed anything else right now. My wife "the real boss" and I were talking last night, and I think I'm going to broach the subject of getting rid of the boer goats, and getting pigs and see how that flys. We're just tired of feeding something that doesn't feed us, and I can't get anyone to try goat. We eat everything else we raise, but nobody's interested in trying this. :hu

So, if I'm gonna feed something, it's got to be able to feed me!! So pigs are on the menu, so to speak :D

Butcher one and don't tell anyone when you cook it? Goat is very good. Maybe if you explained that meat was the whole reason for the boer breed...... Pigs are good too, but I much prefer keeping goats myself.

I've thought of doing that. That's how we got the kids to eat rabbit, we made "Chicken and Noodles" for Sunday lunch and man they scarfed them down. We didn't tell them it was rabbit until after we had leftovers on Monday night. My son was like" yeah, I thought I recognized that meat as rabbit" My wife and I just looked at each other and laughed.

But Momma's holding out too, she doesn't want to eat it either, which REALLY surprised me. The only thing I can think is that she's too attached to them. We started last year w/ 2, and she's been the one that was there for all the births and I think she's made the cardinal sin of the farm, and fell in love w/ the livestock. :idunno

What's a husband to do? :/

Eat the kids....

Goat kids that is. ;) Is there a separate place you can keep the freezer destined ones so wifey doesn't get all emotional on them? A separate pen that no one but you takes care of?
