I do get excited about card board- I was at the feed store one day and the guys were struggling to break up these giant corregated cardboard boxes that some new store fixtures came in order to get them into a dumpster- I grabbed my heart and said "You're not throwing them out , are you?" I went home with two sacks of feed holding down several 4x8 sheets of card board in the back of the truck. Brown gold.................

The only problem is pulling the occasional stray piece of packing tape that I miss out of the garden.

I love using cardboard also, but my SO hates the sight of it in the yard. He just doesn't get the value of it. He wants the place to look like a "House Beautifull" cover. What can I say, he is a city kid. Real farms always have stuff laying about and some things just don't look too pretty sometimes. I use news paper a lot also and feed bags. We are real fortunate though. Our neighbor gathers and resells stuff others are getting rid off. So whenever we need something we just go next door and ask. We usually trade something, for instance peaches or tomatoes from the garden for a partial roll of mesh that we can use to fence the chickens out of the garden.

FarmerDenise- I cover my cardboard with mulch- it's not visible ever.

Otherwise I think it would blow away or deteriorate too fast.
Do you wet it down before adding mulch or is that unnecessary?
