Good grief, let's just go back to the Dark Ages. Can you imagine the number of women having miscarriages who would not seek medical attention?

This is unreal..

That is all I can say..

What about the miscarriages that are unexplained. Ones they cant figure out why. Then I guess you would be guilty of murder.

How about a miscarriage like I had. Early in the pregnancy you only go to doc visits once a month. One month it was there. By the next visit, it wasnt there. They did extensive ultrasounds, couldnt find any thing. I never miscarried outside of the body. So the docs only explaination was, the body obsorbed it. So if my body obsorbed it, unwilling to me, but my body did it. Would it be my fault.

America is getting out of hand with their darn laws..

State and goverment needs to back off.

Its hard enough to loose a baby. Then on top of it they start blaming you for it.. Grrrrrrrrrr..

I better stop now..........

It makes me think about an ex-coworker I knew. While we worked together, she was pregnant and carried the baby to eight months, then miscarried. She was 100 percent devastated and never really recovered from it. She never had children after that. Can you IMAGINE if that woman had to go through a criminal investigation? Any doctor with compassion would probably "forget" to report it.....you would hope. I'm sure it would have driven her over the edge.

My daughter has a friend who lost a child to SIDS. She was interrogated by the police immediately afterwards. Unfortunately things are not always handled in a sensitive matter. After the medical investigation, it was discovered her baby died because of a virus. But she was handcuffed, taken off to jail, etc. She regretted calling 911 as the only brought her more grief. She has also still not recovered from this, and my daughter thinks she never will. Last my daughter heard of her, she had turned into an alcoholic and had all her front teeth knocked out by some nasty man. My daughter has tried to help her but.....that night changed her life too much.

It is bad enough when someone loses a child, how dare they "investigate" people like that? Tain't right.

I wish they would make more laws restricting sex offenders, rapists, thieves and violent criminals if they feel like making up new laws. I believe the government needs to stay out of our personal lives and we would be a lot better off just worrying about the people hurting others. In the case of my daughters friend, a doctor should have decided whether there was any wrongdoing on the part of the mother. I cannot even fathom being handcuffed while grieving the death of your baby.

I don't think making laws about things necessarily changes behavior in a positive way. We need to get political leaders like that OUT of office with our voting habits. Thank you for pointing out this, BB, I almost wish I lived in Georgia so I could vote against those leaders.

Okay I'll get off my soapbox now.

I have a friend who had 15 miscarriages. She delivered one baby and he died during birth (the cord was around his neck).
I can't imagin having to be investigated, after such a loss.

What about homebirths or women who don't even know they are pregnant until something goes wrong.
I have a cousin who was a wild one, partying, drinking, drugs. She didn't know she was pregnant until the 5th month! If that pregnancy had ended in a miscarriage, she would no doubt end up in jail according to that proposed law! :he
so stupid!

By the way, she delivered a premature, but healthy baby boy, who was tougher than nails :p and amazingly smart.

Whoever is trying to start that legislation is sick in the head. They should not be in office. What numbnut is behind this bill anyway?
Women miscarry for no apparent reason frequently. It happened to me once, and the only thing we could figure out was " too much stress". Losing it was hard enough to deal with. If somebody had given me a legal hassle- that would have been too much to take.

Sorry if this offends anybody.

From Baby Center :

About 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, and more than 80 percent of these losses happen before 12 weeks.

This doesn't include situations in which you lose a fertilized egg before a pregnancy becomes established. Studies have found that 30 to 50 percent of fertilized eggs are lost before or during the process of implantation often so early that a woman goes on to get her period at about the expected time.
So....

we're all going to jail?

I had a miscarriage when I was only a few weeks along. Didn't even know I was pregnant until it was over. So under this proposal, would I be under investigation? If it was discovered I had a beer a few days before, or went horseback riding and fell off, would I be guilty of manslaughter? Reckless endangerment?

When this passes, and girls get scared to tell their doctor... they won't get scraped clean. And they'll have more miscarriages... and cancer rates will rise. As well as uterus tumors and polyps and other painful issues.

Here is a bit of levity to help.

http://www.opposingviews.com/i/rep-bobby-franklin-looks-to-criminalize-miscarriages
I applaud your efforts to support the rights of zygote citizens of Georgia by criminalizing miscarriages and investigating every instance of fetal death as a potential crime. The bill you are trying to pass is clear that the Georgia State Assembly knows that life begins at the moment of conception, and that any fertilized egg that dies is a human death that we should all grieve. I couldn't agree more, and I would like to help.
As I'm sure you know, more than 50% of fertilized eggs --Georgia citizens! -- naturally don't implant, and are flushed out of the body during menstruation. I am personally concerned that my own murdering woman-body may have flushed out some human beings, and I may have flushed them down the toilet without knowing that I was disposing of Georgia citizens in such an undignified way. This must be remedied. I would like to be sure that I am not killing any more Georgia citizens -- and that if I am, they are able to receive a proper funeral and not a burial at sea, and that our state police can dedicate valuable time and resources to investigating their deaths.
To that end, I attach a picture of my latest used tampon. I am preserving this tampon, as well as all of my other tampons, pads, feminine hygiene products and soiled panties from my current menstrual cycle, so that the Georgia State Police can come collect them as evidence. I would also be happy to drop the specimens off at your office, should you want to examine them yourself.
Please let me know if I can make an appointment to give you these items. Or, since I appreciate that you are a very busy man, please let me know when the police will be by my home to collect them, as my next cycle is rapidly approaching and they are starting to smell. I cannot keep them in my refrigerator for much longer.
Thanks for all the work you do to further the pro-life cause.
