I live on Long Island near the ocean and when the lightning hits it makes and awesome CLAP echo over the water. I :love thunderstorms! I like to stand on my front porch during one. It's like a really great rock concert. I yell :woot and sometimes hold up my lighter.

Where I grew up (central California coast) our thunderstorms came during the winter; It was great being safely inside, and watching the lightning out over the ocean. Up here they come in the summer mostly - the first year we were here we had a magnificent storm rolling through the valley; we enjoyed it so much - until we read the newspaper the next day: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biscuit_Fire

I love storms! LOVE Them!! Spring - Summer we have them sometimes every afternoon (except the recent drought).
I also love hurricanes - not the damage, but the actual storm. For Ivan I sat out in the door on my parents closed in back porch.... watching the trees bend, the wind blow, rain sideways. The dogs were under my chair wishing I'd go inside.
Then for Dennis in '05 I sat out in the barn aisle with the horses

I grew up in Ohio and we always had wonderful spring storms. Some were violent with the occasional tornado but most are just spectacular electrical displays.

For many years during the '80s and '90s my hunting buddy and I would pitch our tents in the woods during spring wild turkey season. Many times we had severe storms during the night while in our tents and during the mornings when we were sitting at the base of big trees.

I really miss those days.

That doesn't tell me much! To me, there's a north and south end of the island, and an east and west side. :/

I'm in the Hamptons, almost all the way to the end of the island(the east end). 2 hours east of Manhattan.
