Cool! I have to agree Eli (I'll never mistake you for a girl again!!) you're a very mature young man. I say that as someone who has worked in schools for a number of years. It's rare to see someone your age with such a level head. You give me hope for the future (no pressure though....)

Hey, ticks. Very smart head on those young shoulders!

How do you go about raising pheasants for profit. Do you sell eggs, chicks, mature birds or all the above.

You make your own hot sauce? Very enterprising.

Ticks, I just have to say that I think you are a totally awesome young man. Every mom needs at least one son like you:>)
Ditto!! I have a son named Eli!

Ticks, tell us about your homemade hot sauce? What do your parents think about your penchant for SS? Do they do this with you or just follow your lead? I think you are just the berries and wish you could hang with my guys and rub off a little of your common sense on them. They are doing the SS, but they probably won't after they leave here (except my Eli).

Ticks, I am very impressed. Tell us more about this phesant raising for profit thing. And your own hot sauce. Wow.
I don't think the phesant thing would go over in Mississippi so I won't be stealing your ideas. But the hot sauce.... ummmm you better keep that under wraps. LOL

Hey ticks.

Weren't you working on a pheasant introduction project?
Yes dac, I was, but when I realized that I could make a little bit of money from doing something that I love, I thought I would go with that plus, I will become more advanced with the behavior, laying patterns, and the anatomy of the pheasant.

Oh yes my hot sauce. I have been interested in hot peppers since I was about 10 years old. I have been working on creating and perfecting my hot sauce. I have made a very good thick sauce using Jalapeno peppers. It is good on grouse wrapped in bacon. I lost that recipe though. here is the recipe that I made. I took it from my thread on BYC, TEG, and SS.

you need 12 peppers.

I have: It will be bright green
green cherry hots
jalepeno
hungarian wax

the ingerdients:
12 peppers chopped
1 clove of garlic
1 small tomato diced or chopped
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp sugar

directions
1. Chop the peppers into little circular pieces (like you would cut a carrot into circular pieces) make sure you cut the tops off. leave the seeds with the peppers.
2. Peel the garlic and take 1 section.
3. Cut or dice the tomato (if it is a large tomato only use half)
4. Put the peppers, tomato, and garlic into a pan or pot. DO NOT TURN ON THE HEAT YET!
5. Add the apple cider vinegar into the pan and start the heat.
6. You need to brown the peppers, tomato, and garlic. or cook until tender.
7. Once browned and/or tender puree mixture in a blender. make sure everything is chopped and turned into a liquid.
8. Add more apple cider vinegar so the mixture is like a heavy cream.
9. Once the hot sauce is the right consistancy, pour into a sauce pan or pot (it can be the same pot that you browned the peppers, tomato, and garlic in) bring to a boil
10. Pour into sterilized mason jars and seal the top.
11. Refrigerate after opening.

*For a hotter sauce use Habanero peppers
* for a more mild hot sauce remove the seeds from the peppers.
Beekissed, my family has been self-sufficient, so it is normal for us and our family, it is this year that we are actually getting our own raised meat (pheasant) and eggs of course from our chickens. Next year I am going to crank up the self-sufficient notch for my pheasant. I am going to grow corn, sunflowers, pumpkins, etc. The food that pheasant like to eat. It will cut down the cost of food when they are adults.

Next year, I am planning to buy some more pheasant and sell those off to sportsman clubs for about 12$ per bird. I currently have 6 hens and 1 rooster that I am keeping for breeding and plan to sell eggs and sell chicks locally.
Thanks everyone for all the nice comments :)

Ticks- what a thoughtful, responsible, and strong young man you are! I know it has been said here before but you should be very proud of yourself and all you have accomplished. You are someone your peers and elders could learn alot from. Keep up all the hard work and you will go far!!

Wow ticks, thats such a good idea to raise your birds on food, then sell them to a local sportsman club. Not only are you being self sufficient, but you are making your own money too. :)
