Ticks!

I know it's funny that they are in the garden because all winter I threw kitchen scraps in there and would call them. They kept the garden scratched up pretty good and very little vegetation.

It seems to me that it would work. IMO when the tick starts crawling on you, he doesn't know if he's found a potential meal until he reaches skin. Perhaps I'm naive here! But, if the surface smells bad to him, I'm guessing he's gonna mosey along to something that don't smell as bad! I always spray my ankles/cuffs/feet when I go out to work in the yard. Lyme disease is fairly prevalent here. I'm thankful I don't have many ticks, thanks to my chicken flock, and a healthy population of wild turkeys. We really need to get the chipmunks and squirrels under control, as they are an other tick carrier. I was visiting an other lady in town last week, and she told me that she had pulled 10 ticks off herself and her children within the last 10 days from her yard. And she lives in a housing development.

DH was complaining of his shoulder feeling like it was on fire. It had a tick on one bite and another bite where he had scratched it off. They are still deep red and swollen after two days. I tried to get him to go to the doctor and have them checked but it's hard to get an appointment here.

Yikes! Ticks creep me out - thankfully we don't have a big problem here!

I'm in a tick-infested Lyme-endemic area. I rarely get ticks, but I got 5 today while weeding one row in the garden!

all the vets around here are saying this year is gonna be one for the record books. lots of rain, unseasonably warm, big temperature shifts. i too have been hopelessly looking for something to deal with both fleas and ticks. i remember somebody else recommending Avon. i'll go and do some more research and drop back when i've got something to share.

For your dogs? I get Bravecto from the vet for my dogs, it lasts 3 months.

It's that time of year again, and we are having a banner year for ticks here this year. I know the winter was a hard one for most of the country, but here in the southeast, we got rain, rain, and more rain, with very few freezing nights throughout. I've already picked off more ticks on us this Spring than the last two years combined.

Remember, tick borne diseases are on the rise. @Farmfresh gave a very good warning. Freeze your ticks. If you end up in the hospital, they can be tested and just may save your life!

Here we're also seeing a big explosion this year with fleas and things like no-see-ums. And the fleas, at least on the cats, are not responding to the medicine. I wonder if we're creating super resistant fleas like everything else. I really dont like guinea hens but might have to get some for tick control.

I have a trio of guineas. I call them the Looney Goonies. LOL LOL One is setting a nest, those things lay like crazy!
