Hey Everybody. The town I have moved to has a LOT of cats wandering around, (the people across the street have a handful), and they have taken to using our open garage (dirt floor) as a litter box. I have seen at least eight different cats in there. Plus, there's at least one tom who is spraying all over everything, including our back door, and possibly our wood pile. The odor is starting to come through the back porch and into the house now. Any ideas on something I can put out to get them to quit that? I thought of spreading garden lime in the garage, but what about the back of the house? I am not friendly with the neighbors, and I know at least some of these cats live across the street. I am not a cat-hater by any means, I just don't want my house to stink.

A BB gun? ;)

I can't say there is anything that will work real good for cats outside, seeing as the products they sell for cats inside don't work real well either!!

Live traps and mothballs.
I have heard of using cayenne pepper, but it was a fail in our book.

Hmmm.... maybe, as BB said, live trap them and bring them to the local animal shelter.

Put a sand box in the yard, and hope that they will use it instead.

A couple of inches of concrete.

If all else fails, and you decide to get lethal, spill some antifreeze into a container on the floor or use the triple S method. Shoot, Shovel, and Shutup. Pellet gun, CB caps or other subsonic .22 ammo. Just don't get caught.

One thing that can help in the garage, is to lay down chicken wire.
I realize that tripping on it is an issue, but you should be able to figure out a way to hold it down.
And every where they are spraying, you have to mark it over with something MUCH stronger.
Hence the mothball suggestion.

Get a dog. I don't have problems with cats. :hu We have LOADS of strays and my dogs usually keep them ran off from that close to the house.

 Or if you have a dog problem, get a feisty cat!
Our cats are well known in our neighborhood for running off dogs.
I have watched a HUGE dog run yelping down the road after meeting one of our cats

I have heard that a potato makes an effective, temporary, edible silencer for a .22 rifle or semi-auto pistol.
At least that's what I have heard. ;)
