Pretty cool. (Given that there was no damage).

I was sitting at the computer a little over a half hour ago and all of a sudden things started shaking, mostly back and forth, in a very very peculiar way. There was no noise so I knew it wasn't anything on the road out front. Minor shaking lasted most of a minute but only the stuff where you can see the tall stack of CDs wibbling.

Looked out the window; animals seemed utterly unconcerned. Most of the housecats slept through it :p

So, neat! Another thing to add to my life-list.

Prefer not to ever experience a big one though :p

Preliminary reports seem to be suggesting this was around 5.5, near Ottawa, but felt pretty widely in this part of Canada and part of the States.

Anyone else feel it?

I just saw that on the news. Glad it didn't sound like there was too much damage. Isn't that pretty uncommon up in that part of the world? Is there a major fault line up there?

A few weeks ago now we had one here in AZ. But I didn't feel it. I grew up in CA, and lived in Alaska for five years. So I have felt my share of earthquakes!

They are kind of neat, aren't they - so long as you are in a safe place. I was in that position during the Loma Prieta quake in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1989. That was a big one, and a lot of damage was done, and people died ... but where I was - under a tree in my backyard - I realized that I was perfectly safe (unless the tree fell), so I was able to watch, and feel what was happening without panic. The sliding door into the house slid back and forth a few times - that was spooky.
I'm glad to hear that your experience wasn't horrid, and that you are safe.

I'd be under my desk too, like the Loma Prieta quake where I was in '89. Under my desk, then out from under my desk, and then tried to get out of my office, cus the door had slammed and a metro shelf had fallen in front of it. Then the quake stopped. shiver.....

We had it here too Pat...I didn't feel a thing...I was sewing, and the machine always shakes a bit at higher speeds so I just thought it was that I think...my son felt it. It was a huge part of Ontario...and now you southern Ontario have tornado warnings...
imagine that...and earthquake and a tornado on the same day!

The recent earth quake activity around the world makes me a bit nervous. Glad it was just a little one for you.

I feel the same. Just a few to many strong quakes going round, for my liking.

Time to go and update that earthquake kit!!! But then we kind of always are aware of them and sort of prepared.
But it wouldn't hurt to make sure we have some extra gallons of drinking water stashed away and the prescriptions kept filled.

Glad you are ok up there in Ontario. My uncle used to live in Toronto a long, long time ago. He's a dinosaur ;)

DH's comment after the last big one, "Wow, it's like the Earth is trying to shake us all off!"
