One thing we have all learned by this forum is that it is almost impossible to be totally self sufficient. We as people need other people.

It is a great goal to live as independently as possible, but don't ever underestimate the value of like minded folks with other experiences and the willingness to share.

Farmfresh is spot on. Where ever you go, be sure to network with like minded individuals. I don't believe that things will get bad enough that we have to "hunker in the bunker", but if it ever did, no one family could hope to make the stand alone.

Learn who your neighbors are, become a part of the community, and you'll have others to support you and that you can count on, come what may.
