Township clean up day, or not.

Our township ran an ad in the local paper for a clean up day. At first, I was very excited, until I read the list of acceptable/unacceptable items.

They were only accepting scrap and other sell-able material. Anything any normal person would want to turn in on clean up day, like paint, oil, electronics or furniture - they listed as unacceptable!

So, apparently, the only ones cleaning up around here will be the township!

Just wondering if anybody else is having issues with their local offices being equally as generous?

Doesn't surprise me. Anything to make a buck. Someone told my husband last week that people have been getting arrested/fined here in our town for simply living together. We couldn't believe it, but when we researched it online, yep, people have been getting arrested and then fined $500 for living together and not being married - some old "common law" thing that is still on the books.

Our county has a thing one day a year when you can get rid of old paint and chemicals. Free.

yea --we have the 'bad chemical free day here also'

our general cleanup takes only good stuff also

then they have the yardwork/trees/shrub free pickup day (they make it into mulch)

Our city has an "anything goes" garbage pickup day annually, and also picks up Christmas trees for mulch for city parks and the zoo (sometime in January each year).

Our Fire Halls all take "dangerous chemicals", stuff like camping propane cannisters and paint etc. anytime, you can just drop them off. And our landfill stations all take paint and have specific bins for metal, wood, and an area where they take all "white goods" (used appliances).

That's the only place where the city takes stuff that is worth anything, as far as I know.

On the good side, our local landfill takes everything and recycles as much as possible. There are "stations" throughout the whole area where you can dump large/small appliances, computers and tech equipment, all plastics, glass, etc. The bad side is that they will not allow picking. My son used to get around that by taking some computer stuff to the walk-in trailer and drop it off, then he would take something in return. I got sick of the electronics just about the time he married and moved away! But I think it's just sad that you can see all sorts of stuff and can't take it.

We have lived here three years, and this is the first clean up day of any kind they've had. Just seems strange that the only things they'll 'relieve' you of are things that will make them money! I don't need to pad their bank account, I have people stopping by here all the time trying to buy my scrap!

It does help explain why we found a bunch of 'stuff' in the tall grass behind our house when we moved in!

Guess we'll rent a dumpster for this stuff too, like we did when we moved in. :/
