UN: Give Bugs & Trees the Same Rights as Humans

There are ways to eat meat without destroying the earth. The way we are doing it now is not good for humanity, the animals, or the planet.

I can't see my local congressman giving up his steak.

It seems a rather limited, perhaps arrogant assumption that if a person is against questionable environmental legislation, that they are not in favor of protecting the earth.

I garden using sustainable methods.

My animals are raised using natural feeds, and allowed to live as close to a natural life as we can reasonably provide for them.

We recycle those things that can be recycled within our specific situation.

We do not buy into the "disposable consumerism" that has plagued the nation where appliances are concerned.

We operate economy cars as far as we can, and economize on mileage.

We don't buy much in the way of fast food, so our food is eaten from reusable containers.

We teach our kids to be stewards - that you can't just rob and move on, you have to maintain.

I just don't happen to feel that it is the place of the government to decide that I have to do any one of those things, or to dictate HOW I have to do it - that leaves things open to too much bureaucratic stupidity.

Pat, most laws can be misinterpreted, subverted, and corrupted. That is why I believe that LESS law is generally a better answer than more. And saying that with the belief that most laws can be corrupted, there is no such thing as a good law, does not at all recommend the passing of one that leaves so MANY opportunities for corruption as the proposed UN document does.

In the name of "child health" a Chicago school now forbids parents to send their child to school with a school lunch - they require them to pay for a school lunch. Given the chance to usurp the rights of parents, they did so without hesitation. So according to them, their lunch of pre-packaged, preservative loaded, white flour and soy protein "enchiladas", is healthier than anything you, as a parent might prepare, not due to content, but simply because they (the only allowable authority) have dictated it to be so. If you send a packaged cookie to school with your child, it is unhealthy and will be confiscated. If they serve that same brand of cookie at lunch, it is healthy, and a good food for them to eat - merely because they said so. And that trend is growing, in the wake of the Obama encouraged food police mentality.

Government control IS going to intrude itself into our lives with ever increasing absurdity and outrage. But there isn't any need to open the door and invite them in.

That's why I buy ammo and keep my door locked.
When they come-a-knockin'....someone ain't gonna be happy, and I plan on stayin' happy as long as I can.
