I think it depends upon the form of chocolate and the temp it is stored at . . . here is a good chart of food storage information.

Back to the original question......Yes, I believe we ARE in a depression, but I am not getting worried......yet.
We have guns, ammo and food. Oh, and lots of canning supplies. :D

HMMMMM........ hard to say depression. A greater depression was averted but only postponed I think. Just like judgement day. Here were I live things are not getting better. Things always slow down in the winter on the island but this yr there is a little something different in the air. The state and feds are not helping things out up here either. More regs on fishing, cutting bait by 1/2 next yr. More mandates for our school with no funds behind it but the local tax burden. The subsidty in our school was cut by 68,000. The building industry in flat and looking to drop off the planet at anytime. The boat yards have layed off a lot of guys. Local lumber yard is dead, no deliveries so lay offs or cut back will happen soon. Our smaller businesses are closing early this yr. Money is tight and people are getting restless. We have already had 2 major break ins, pharmacy and grocery store. 2 major assaults one with a pipe to the back of a head. 3 major accidents with speed and drinking involved. Not bad for a small 3000 person island. A hear a lot more gun shots this fall. People are ruder in the stores. Especially if you have work and they don't. The fear of the NiHI is not helping with the ids in school either. Kids are picing on my kid because she doesn't vaccinate but she is never sick and the kids that are doing the picking are always sick. I guess the vitamins , healthy life style, and organic diet might be a factor.

I think we are in for some tough yrs ahead. My family and I have been planning for this for yrs and think we can weather it with our heads above water but lots of islanders are not going to mae it. I see a loss of some more culture as the rich with money will come in and buy more property up and squash those less fortunate. I say eat the rich and keep your powder dry!!! JUST MY 2 WORTHLESS CENTS!!!

I definitely agree with that. I know of 2 foreclosures on my road already. I fear that people with money from far away will buy them up and do who knows what. I'd rather see local families in the houses. But I have to wonder how many people are out there with that much cash to burn . . . eventually won't the economic grief flare up the food chain (as opposed to the trickling down, that doesn't seem to work, of course). :hu

Good luck to you. Calmer heads will prevail . . . or so we hope!

I don't think I have enough storage for a years worth of chocolate. :hide

You know why old laddies are so good at pushing people around. Because practice makes perfect and they have been doing it a looooooooooog time.

Once I was at cost co trying to avoid all the people in line for free food samples. I had an elderly lady coming at me driving her cart with one hand. The other was occupied by a large chicken wing she just picked up. After bouncing off of the refrigerator case and bumping into me. She not so nicely yelled at me while shaking her chicken in the air and at me. " I can only do so much". I almost died laughing.
That was ME! hey, I can't handle it all ya know! Give me a break!

You're gonna need that gun and ammo to provide chocolate for your wife!
