I am even more excited now! And overwhelmed!

I think my husband mentioned the Sequoia National Park. He rode a motorcycle to CA years ago and went to the wrong park for the giant redwoods so we want to be sure to go to the right one.

OR Chick
Thanks for the tip. I will definitely drive south to north!

That is a great idea to get a Pass! Since we will be camping I am sure we will be seeing a lot of National Parks. We are on a special diet so I will bring most of our food. We rarely eat out.

Capitol Reef National Park looks interesting. I will put it on our list of destinations and see if it fits in.

getting a clue
I will try and take pictures but I have so much trouble posting them. I have to get my daughter to come over to do it.

I will second that! I was in Colorado Springs 2 years ago visiting family stationed there - and lemme just say, The Garden of the Gods was just breathtaking!!

Urban Idaho.
Redwood NP is on the northern coast of California. Sequoia NP is in the Sierras, more central California. Two different kinds of trees, two different national parks.

Great Basin NP in Nevada, over by the Utah border is really cool. They have one of the best caves I have ever been in. And bristlecone pines.

I would love to go to Oregon and I definitely must put ghost towns on the list!

Garden of the Gods in Colorado looks beautiful!

It is always good to know of nearby parks. They remind me of some state parks we have in Missouri. And caves, I love caves! I am really going to have to work hard to map out a route to take. There is so much out there.

What spectacular pictures! Your area has a lot of interesting places! When is the farm show? The CA gold rush town sounds very interesting to me. In 1999 I was part of a wagon train reinactment of the '49ers. I saw an article in the newspaper about it and thought I have to see if I can go. Well, they let me join them for the first day. If I wouldn't have had to leave my family behind I could have kept going.

The Colorado Springs area does have A LOT to see. Some free, some cheap, some spendy but still well worth it.

Here is where we usually take visitors...
Garden of the Gods (free)
Pikes Peak Highway (toll)
Helen Hunt Falls (free)
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (not too expensive)
Air Force Academy (free)
Bear Creek Nature Center (free)
Paint Mines Park (free but 1/2 hour drive)
Waldo Canyon (free)
Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City for shopping (can be free OR very expensive...LOL)
Mining Museum (pretty cheap)
Red Rock Caon (free)

The only problem with this area is that some people get altitude sickness. If you do, the Pikes Peak Highway is NOT a good idea. :p

I spent three summers back in thee seventies working as a maid at The Summit Hotel at 935 Osage Avenue in Manitou Springs. Went to the Garden of the Gods frequently. So, so beautiful. I wonder if the balancing rock ever fell ! Probably not....
